So Cal is Burning
Since local areas were starting to get evacuated, and/or local freeways were being closed due to fire, we've all fled work early.
The smoke isn't as bad down here in Mission Viejo as it was at work. Everywhere though it smells like smoke. Being out in it is weird, its like a fog that isn't wet and stings the eyes and the light shines through it with an evil yellow tint.
Reminds me of when there were really bad fires when I was in I think 3rd grade (?) -- the whole sky was deep orange / red for days, and most of Laguna Beach was levelled by fire. Dave has stories about getting out of his burning house in Laguna Beach just before the roof came crashing down.
Anyway, currently there are a number of fires raging throughout Southern California. The most famous seems to be up by Malibu, but there are also fires in the hills of Orange County, near San Diego, and elsewhere. Basically all of So Cal is burning I think.
Also, there are extremely strong winds today. I dunno if this is because of the fires or a cause of the fires but it makes life seem a little more surreal and apocalyptic. The agave tree in our backyard has tipped over.
In other news, for lunch today Hannah and I went to her place and she made me pasta. <3
