Friendzy!

I thought I'd do something the lovely [livejournal.com profile] boxsofrain did a bit ago, and declare a Friendzy (Friending frenzy!). Actually I'm not sure she intended for it to work out quite like this but it did: (1) answer the following questions in a comment; (2) As Boxes says, "Also to make this more fun, feel free to read other peoples comments and reply to them with something nice about them. ... Make friends, add each other, mingle, just please be nice." (3) extra points if you mention the Friendzy in your own LJ and send people over to the party! (=

PS: I'll answer my own questions in a comment a little bit later today.. so check back!

That's what I always say - once an addict, always. The second you let your guard down, y'know? Hehehe.

Nice to "meet" you too!!

I love the coat! My degree is in Russian and Czech studies. High five for the Slavic crowd!

They tried to actually SHUT DOWN THE RUSSIAN DEPARTMENT while I was there. WTF?!

For Christmas I really want an even bigger furry Russian hat. One of those giant Cossack hats. (=

basenjis are african sighthounds. They're smallish dogs, around 25-35 lbs, usually marked like my Eris, but with a smoother coat, and they can be red and white, black and white, or tricolored. I have a basenji/lab (12 years old, alpha male) and a basenji/terrier (11, alpha female). This is Eris (the 11 y/o): Image

Understandable- We totally expected to have more trouble integrating pits into our pack, but they've been really easygoing for us. Granted, Rowdy has stopped accepting my foster pups so I had to stop fostering puppies (he wasn't aggressive to them, he just acted out otherwise- forgot his manners, so to speak), but I can accept that- my Roo is my heart.

[identity profile] emo-snal.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
haha nice name. What are the others named?

[identity profile] spiderlilyfairy.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not exactly. She does bark (we assume its the terrier in her, because otherwise, she acts like a basenji).. The male didn't bark until she taught him to- but he wasn't silent. Basenjis don't bark, but they yodel, scream, and make other...interesting.. noises.
We used to get really ugly looks when we picked Seamus up from the groomer's because he'd scream when he was excited- and it sounded like we were beating him to death when he was actually happy.

They're neat dogs. =)

[identity profile] spiderlilyfairy.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Seamus is the eldest, then Eris, Maggie (pit x), Delilah Rose (pit), Dixie Lee (Shar Pei/Boxer), Rowdy (pit), and Sassy (Husky mix). The cats are Obsidian (aka Sid), Shidheezi, and Faith.

Eris was named because she had severe separation anxiety and was extremely house destructive as a puppy- even in a crate, we often came home to find that everything within 5 feet of her crate had somehow been pulled into the crate and destroyed. =)

Pet Names

[identity profile] emo-snal.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool. I like the name "Seamus" but I knew a guy by that name who was a complete deadbeat so I think the name is ruined for me. The two rats I had until recently were named Leia and Delilah. Had to get rid of our rooster Falafel but we still have the hen Tzatziki (Zeze for short).

HTML spells

[identity profile] emo-snal.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I posted a big step by step to this for you yesterday and then my browser crashed at the VERY END and I lost it :'(

HTML might not be working in your posts due to being in "Rich text mode". I ran into this problem while trying to teach my mother ([livejournal.com profile] furzicle) these same arcane secrets. In "rich text mode" what you see is what you get and you change everything through use of buttons.

If you are in html mode, however, insert pictures by typing [img src=""], with triangle brackets instead of square and within those two quotation marks the location of the image (will look like http://somedomain/maybesomethingelse/imagename.jpg or something). You usually get this by right clicking on the image and going to "copy image location" in the box that opens (in firefox anyway). Good luck!

yeah.. funny thing, when we got Seamus, we'd decided that if we had a little boy. we'd name him Seamus.. then used the name on the dog. He also goes by Shammy, Shamsham, and Shameless. He's our grand old man (12), so he's a bit snarky w/the younger dogs, but he still tries to crawl into mom's lap (all 50 lbs of him- hence the "Shameless"...). We do love our furkids.

I hate it when a name is ruined for me by knowing someone who gives it a bad connotation. =/

I've got a friend named Shalane, which I think is a pretty cool name. Earlier I was thinking she potentially ruined the name for me (this was back when she was in jail), but she's kept her nose clean for a few years now and I do consider her a good friend so the name might be not currently on ruined status.

On the subject of odd names I've always thought "Kestrel" would make a cute girls name. Sounds like it COULD be a name and its a small bird of prey which is kind of cool.

Where in Nor Cal are you?

And notgonnalie, you look pretty attractive. (=

Possums!

[identity profile] emo-snal.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We used to go out every evening and collect all the snails we could find to feed to her... before too long we couldn't find any more snails!!!

Then I'd come down and mom would be boiling an egg at 10pm. I'd be like "mom, why are you boiling an egg at 10pm?!" and she'd be like "Feeding the possum" LOL

[identity profile] gratefuladdict.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sonoma County - about an hour north of SF. Did I ever tell you I used to live in Fullerton?

P.S. Thank you. :)

Nor Cal

[identity profile] emosnail.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No you didn't tell me that. For how long? Fullerton is like the only place in OC that feels like you might live in a TOWN (rather than suburban wastelands).

What town do you live near now? I drove up (and down again) that way in September on a roadtrip.

PS: I'd totally post a missed connection about you. hahaha

How about that other movie by those guys, Hot Fuzz?

I live in Santa Rosa, right there off 101.

I only lived there for about 3 months. I was staying with my uncles after I dropped out of USC, and helping out at their jazz club (Steamers at Commonwealth and Harbor, if you've heard of it).

Oh great - now you know what town I live in, so I will be watching for that sneaky post! Don't think I won't call you out. LoL

Practicing

[identity profile] emosnail.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My initial interpretation of what was being 'practiced' in "No kids (yet) but my husband and I are practicing with two chocolate labs." was just plain wrong. LOL o_O

Ahahahaha dang!! Notgonnalie I had craigslist in mind a little. ;D

How's life in Santa Rosa?

[identity profile] superhappytime.livejournal.com 2008-12-03 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
stereotyping by career and astrological sign now? maybe this desire to categorize things and fit them into neat compartments is a symbol of YOUR inner desire to be an engineer.

That would work.. I could see naming at least a pet Kestrel, if not a kiddo..
