I justify it as a not-entirely-pointless endeavour in that, even though you're categorizing other people's entries and not your own, it still gets you into thinking about exactly WHAT you're writing about and why. Also you can be more aware of what other people are writing about and how well it's doing. I'm always looking to improve my writing through blogging so being aware of these things I think help me fine tune my own writing.
