Regard the Gila monster, a thick lizard that lives in the Mojave desert. It, itself is not venomous. But the remnants of those it has killed remain in its mouth long enough to putrefy. The next victim he decides to bite, innocent or not, gets the poison within its mouth and soon expires from that.
