   So as you may have gathered, my boss (Dave) is kind of crazy.

   This guy named Terry* used to work for Dave several years ago. Eventually he and Dave had a falling out, as is relatively likely to happen to people who are around Dave for any period of time. This left them on extremely bad terms and they didn't talk for many years after that.

   A few weeks ago Terry apparently lost his job. In this troubled economy he couldn't find another one and quickly burned through his meagre savings.
   Finally he was desperate and called the one person he knew would help him. He called Dave, whom he had not talked to once sent the fight. He was hoping Dave might have some kind of employment for him, but when he mentioned he'd barely been able to afford to eat lately, Dave invited him over for dinner immediately.

   Despite our company not exactly being flush with cash, after several bad bee years, we've had Terry helping out around the bee cave several days a week lately.

   So lest you picture Dave as merely a psychotic ogre, consider things like this, and think of him as a more complex ogre character.

In mine, either you get a nickname that I can use for you all the time, or you get your real name used. That whole "change the name to protect the innocent" stuff is not gonna fly, as I would never know "who" that name was supposed to be.

Yeah exactly, I don't want to give nicknames I'm not going to remember next time I go to reference them, I'm pretty much not going to remember any nickname I give (I'm lucky to remember real names!), so real names it is.

I just call everyone George.

I haven't really heard anything about what happened when Terry was here before except that "there was a falling out." Would be curious what you know.

That's true. It's always a little surprising how it really is true that if you get to know such an "ogre" you can usually discover that they're actually really insecure deep down and very grateful for a little kindness. My coworker Bob has also come up a few times for making fun of completely inane things I've done (such as god forbid eating a bagel with both sides together like a sandwich), but once you get to know him you realize he's actually very insecure.

I always use people's real names in my journal as well. I figure I use their real names when talking to real life friends about them, so why not online as well? After all, my real life friends are more likely to meet them than my online friends, who are mostly in other countries!

My dad has a boss like that as well - insane and unreasonable, yet sometimes one of the most generous people there is. Sometimes good crazy and bad crazy get all mixed up in the same person...

Is that picture circa 1970? I think you forgot to mention that.

I have no idea the date of the picture but my guess would be early 90s / lat 80s.
