Camera at Last!

School resumed on wednesday. I have class monday through thursday this quarter. I'm signed up for Recent US Foreign Policy, Analysis of US Foreign Policy, Consitution and Justice Systems, Judicial Process & Behaviour and swedish 2.
Professor Spriggs of POL153 (Proc & Behaviour) came off as a fangorious asshat in my opinion but others who have had him report he's alright. Looks like most of the class is going to be reading and discussing cases so I'm excited. He used the "if you don't have this prereq you WILL be dropped so I suggest you leave now" ploy. Of course they can't do that. Professors can't drop students under any conditions. I thought it was kind of funny to start a law class with a threat the teacher doesn't have the right to carry out.

Picture of the Day!!

My former roommate, Adrian Dayton-Jones, in his natural habitat, the Coffee House

I finally have a digital camera!! Parents decided finally to up and send me their old one and get a new one themselves. Now indeed a new era of photographic enlightenment shall reign upon Davis!

ADRIAN...is hot.

I miss him! I don't see him too much. However, I did see Dani in the coffee house today.

Now I want some crystal light.

It is this low-calorie/no-carb drink that comes in various flavors like 'Pink Lemonade' and 'Iced Tea'. LindsayDuggan went through this phase where she was obsessed with Crystal Light Iced Tea while she was on Atkins and called it by it's initials which can be likened to how we refer to Caramel Apple Cider.

The prof can't, but can't the department? I've been told in some math classes that people that don't have the prereq WILL be dropped.

[identity profile] emosnail.livejournal.com 2005-01-07 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
yes I've been told in those same definite terms. Professor Gartner even went so far as to ask us all to write what quarter we had taken the prereqs on an index card and term them in for verification. I didn't have the prereqs, I didn't turn in an index card, I was never dropped.

They'll try to pretend otherwise, but I'm quite certain that they utterly cannot drop you, not even the department.

Sean Davis sent me the following today:

Following UCD Davis regulations, I am allowed to drop you from the
course if you haven't satisfied the prerequisites. That is what I
plan to do.

I think it's possible.

Also, with your digital camera you've gotta go wiki-crazy man. I barely have a digital camera myself. I really wanted to take a picture of the hilarious food signs over in the CoHo grill area today. They had one of some weird ass named food and they wrote "We promise we're not making this up!" and I lurve them all so much with all their jokes and yes yes, anyway, take pictures.

.. What page out of this 21 page document are you ref to?

[identity profile] codetoad.livejournal.com 2005-01-07 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Page 6, titled "Class Prerequisites," as noted in the Table of Contents.

Thanks, I kept looking under "class drop" and kept paging through the entire document without sucess under those headers.

Prereq Appeasement

[identity profile] emosnail.livejournal.com 2005-01-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well then, looks like they have to ask the registrar's office to do it for them, something I'd imagine is unusual and inconvenient for everyone involved.

My personal experience on the subject is (1) Professor Siverson in a class with a large waitlist once said that he'd drop everyone who missed the first two days of class so people on the waitlist could get in. On the third day of class he reported "well, turns out I can't drop them. Lets have a super easy quiz tomorrow and say you can't pass the class if you miss it." He then emailed the students who missed it informing them that they best make themselves scarce. (2) see professor gartner vignette above

In conclusion, I'm not going to stop others from fearfully adhering to prereq appeasement, but I myself still believe in boldly defying this barberous oppression.

Yeah, I don't think that they can necessary drop people for missing the first day of class or something. He was doing that grade-wise, rather than administratively.

good point - the siverson case wasn't about prereqs.

Hey in half an hour I'm going down to visit the illustrious John Salido of University Haircutters for a haircut. I'm going to attempt to take a picture of him cutting my hair (vis-a-vis the mirrors that are all over all barber shops). Hopefully some good will come of it.

Yes, yes you should!

Personally I intend to subject you all to a photo essay of "a million pictures of Kristy" now. Muahahaha.

Spriggs

[identity profile] thetalesend.livejournal.com 2005-01-07 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Spriggs is an asshat each time I tried to take a class with him it seemed like taking a pol150 class again. I suggest just getting him to know your name and be buddy buddy with him even though more then half the class will know in depth what everything is. It's a challenege to stay away but I'm sure your prodding (as I have seen in becker's class) will keep the class more lively and he likes chattering so that might be the best way to deal with his asshatness.
