Week in the Life of a Beekeeper 2
Aug. 10th, 2008 01:40 pm Monday I didn't work because Marla was visiting. Noteably, like always, there was no issue with me telling my boss (Dave) about 36 hours in advance that I wasn't working Monday. (=
Tuesday and Wednesday I pushed papers around in the office. Mainly related to the bee exterminating side of the business actually. No beekeeping to do because we're awaiting equipment.
Thursday morning some 200 topboards (ie the tops of beehives) came in. This was good because I'd run out of stuff to do in the office and was reading the odd news until then ("Samaritan Thief Steals Van, Reports It To Police!"), and thinking about just going home until they came in.
However come in they did so I immediately commenced painting them white. Dave, meanwhile, was out on his boat.
Friday I was still painting (it takes a long time to paint 200 topboards, especially when they need two coats of paint and you can only fit half of them on the floor for painting at a time!), and Dave was still boating. (I mention Dave's boating because its also an example of what a beekeeper has time and money to do). About halfway through I had to clear a path for the 750 pounds of sugar that came in, which we will use to make medicated syrup for the bees.
