Kristy had her digital camera at hand this weekend, so once again there is photographic documentation of our adventures!! First up, the chickens, as seen above, and in three other pictures.

Secondly, well secondly Matt "Papa Smurf" Wilkerson, Raoul Haeck and Desiree Covey joined Kristy & I for dinner on Friday at BJs and it was excellent. I really liked their "Tatonka Stout."

Thirdly, Kristy & I went to the Phi Alpha Delta (of UCSD!) Formal at Sea World.

As you can see, I am now so elderly it looks like I'm going bald!!!
(six more pictures from formal)

In addition to us, there was a contingent from UCLA there. The location and food was extremely excellent. Also, an open bar for an hour -- all this for just $30 / person!
Incidentally, all the UCI Φ A Δ chapter is not having a formal of their own, but rather going to the Formal hosted by Cal State Northridge. I think some other chapters may be as well, making it a kind of uber Φ A Δ event. At $55 / person and in Burbank, however, Kristy & I decided to opt for the convenient and highly cost effective San Diego one instead.

And now for our feature presentation, the Coronado Islands!

Kristy got tickets for the two of us for a nature cruise to the Coronado Islands for my birthday. The Coronado Islands are four rocky islands off Tijuana in Mexican waters. They have only one place of human habitation, plus a lighthouse or two, but large populations of harbour seals, sea lions, elephant seals, and various birds.
Notable history of the islands includes the use of the one cove in the islands by a pirate during the gold rush, who plundered ships passing to and from the California gold fields. More recently, in 1943, apparently, a Lieutenant L Ron Hubbard, commanding a US Navy patrol boat, bombarded one of the Coronado Islands as an impromptu "target practice." Due to the fact that he was supposed to have returned to port already, he was not authorized to anchor in Mexican territory or undertake any target practice, much less onto Mexican territory, Lt Hubbard was relieved of command. This genius would of course go on to found Scientology. (Maybe he had discovered the Coronado Islands were a secret lair of Xenu)

Or, of course, you can view these pictures plus more on flickr.

I have a new job. Today I interviewed at Alex's mom's firm, Hughes & Sullivan, for a position as Court Assistant, and was given the position. I will start on Wednesday (the soonest drug test results are expected back), at $14 an hour.

I stopped by the Bee Cave on my way back to thank them for employing me this week, and got a paycheck for $350 for my three days of work ($15 an hour) which you will recall I mostly spent playing pingpong and watching the whiskey still.

Hughes & Sullivan has 15 attorneys (three senior partners, of which Alex's parents are two (the other is Sullivan obviously)), and 28 employees overall. I will be making sure all the case files are in order every morning for the days adventures, and spending most of the time at court helping the attorneys in various ways. I am very excited, it sounds like I will be quite emersed in the front-lines of legal activity.

Additionally, in about an hour and a half I pick Kristy up from the train station. Today is an excellent day.

So we survived our adventure in Porto Nueva, Mexico. Our 12 person expeditionary force consisted of C-Bunch (entries, pics), his cousin SirPsychoSexy, their friends Byron Tyrone Tyrel Tyrice Bison Tyson & Branch, Kim Bowles (entries pics), Little Colleen (entries), Colleen Milton (entries, pics), C.Milton's cousin Elise, Lyrakeet (entries, pics), Sashakeet (entries, pics), Kristykeet (entries, pics), & myself (entries, pics). We stayed in two six-person suites, which were built in a vertically oriented manner, not-unlike a cat-tower. A narrow spiral staircase led up to the highest rooms, which being the highest parts of the buildings were quite tower-like.
In the nearby lobster-oriented village, every restaurant seemed to have the exact same $12-16 lobster special (of corresponding amounts of lobster). It was really difficult to distinquish between the restaurants... and not only that they need to learn how to come up with more creative names, there was Porto Nueva Lobster Restaurant I, II & III, and Restuarant Del Mar I, II & III, etc etc!

Meanwhile Elsewheree
Elsewhere apparently, Saddam Hussein had a rather unpleasant end to his New Years eve countdown . In Somalia, the Ethiopian and Transitional Government forces crushed the final Islamic Courts Union (ICU) stronghold between the evening of New Years Eve and the early hours of New Years Day. Local clan elders asked the ICU to leave the city (Kismayo) to prevent the city from being destroyed in the fighting, when the ICU refused, fighting broke out behind the front lines between the ICU and local clan militias. ICU commander Sheikh Yusuf Hassan stated "are not going to surrender. We will fight to defend Jilib and Kismayo until we die," shortly before there was a mutiny within the ICU forces and they began a disorganized flight from the battle area. Kenyan forces were seen moving towards the nearby Kenyan border to prevent ICU forces from crossing over, and the United States fifth fleet patrolled the coast to prevent ICU forces from escaping by sea. This appears to be the end of the ICU. The transitional government has announced weapons collections and amnesty programmes for former fighters.

This past weekend Kristy came up to visit.

On Friday we attended the Phi Alpha Delta formal, which was held in the Veteren's Memorial.
Those of us who intended to drink each donated $10 with which officers acquired alcohol which they made available at the event to those who had paid. Though Kristy & I had each donated $10, we brought our own higher quality alcohols in flasks to be assured a certain quality. But then Social Chair Tessie Cross told us that we were not allowed bring our own alcohol. However, I don't see how the alcohol we brought was any different from the alcohol THEY brought. Such a rule makes sense when a catering service is providing food/beverages and expects to be held liable for any results of consumption/embibement at a given event, but in this case everything was provided by members. On any account, as we had just finished our own alcohol supply the situation was moot.
Anyway, Kristy & I had a pleasant banquet experience and I was pleased to introduce her to the numberous new pledglings whom had not met her yet. Kirill, whom I've rather adopted in lieu of the early disappearance of the pledglinig I was assigned as a little sib, got me a flask as a present, saying I seemed like a flask kind of guy. (=
Towards the very end of banquet I was holding an empty alcohol container that was shaped like a globus cruciger, which I thought was rather novel, and its donator, Alvin, had said I could have. Social Chair Tessie Cross approached me and took it from me, explaining presumably "you cannot have that because _____" but none of the people I was standing with could understand what she said due to ambient noise. We just shrugged and let her make off with it. Shortly thereafter Tessie departed the event leaving the globus on a table with some other discarded trash, so I reacquired it.
The traditional Pledge Party took place after the banquet starting at midnight -- as scheduling it the following day would have conflicted with the CoHo Formal, apparently. It consisted primarily of people standing around awkwardly for a little while and then dispersing. Many went to IHOP, where they had more fun.

The next evening (Saturday), after various fun Davis-related adventures (such as Farmer's Market) we ended up at the Foyerhouse. What had begun as simply a plan for some of Kristy's close friends to all hang out with her on Saturday had escalated first to a facebook-event titled "Worship the Greatness of Kristy" (title not approved by Kristy) and then a semi-formal event when Kristy decided she wanted to wear her dress again. I wore my polka-dot tie, and Olivia also wore a dress. Britta & Julie came dressed as a devil & gangster, respectively, which I thought was awesomely random.
I made some Glögg I had decided to randomly pick up at Cost Plus earlier and everyone loved it.

Otherwise.. we just had a lot of pleasant adventures and it was quite fun.

The weekend before last (Nov 18-21 actually) I was at the AMWEST Model UN Conference in Las Vegas. My official report is here.

Anyway, barely had I returned (Tues Nov 21), then I set off (the next day, Wednes Nov 22) to drive down south for Tryptophane Day. Fortunately most of my relatives were gathered at our cabin in the hills south of The Grapevine
On the way down I found one of those secret truck gas stations I'd always wondered about (where trucks sneak off to to gas up). A 76 gas truck was refueling there despite the fact there was a 76 station on the other corner, which I found amusing. Then two nice white cars passed me on the freeway. The first thing I noticed was the tall antennas sticking out the top. They has "CA exempt" plates and the numbers "91" & "92" respectively in little digits on the bumper, but no other markings. Curious I edged up until I was alongside the back one. Looking over I see a police sargeant (with an armful of gold chevrons on his shoulder) staring back at me. Creeped out I quickly dropped behind him and waited for some unsuspecting vehicle to fly past.

Thanksgiving was pleasant. Then on Friday I drove down to Mission Viejo where I recovered from the rustic life for a few hours before proceeding down to San Diego to hang out with the delightful Kristy Kristersson.
On Saturday we (Kristy & I, & her parents) went to the San Diego Zoo, which was excellent as always. I saw some sort of mustelid I thought was really cool but can't remember the name. That evening we ate at this place Fred's in old town, where I had delicious calamari tacos.
And on Sunday I drove the ten hours back up to Davis. Altogether I spent at least 20 hours driving, which is a pretty traumatizing thought. At least I had a lot of time to think about things ... mostly future prospective LJ entries and/or ideas for ASUCD ;)

I still don't know what I'm going to do about the "year ago today" series - I liked it a lot but it was starting to take up too much space on every entry, and that makes the whole lj pretty recursive. Three Years

Yesterday was Kristy & I's Three Year Anniversary. I never would have imagined that she wouldn't be totally tired of my crochety ways after three years (= Nevertheless, we're still going strong, and I miss her AMAP (As Much As Possible) while she's in San Diego and I'm up here. Taking Community & Regional Development 1 - "The Community," while a rather retarded class, was surely the best decision of my career as it was there that I met a young lady named Kristy Heidenberger, who apparently referred to me as "the Scottish guy."
This Kristy girl, as it turns out, has unrivaled beautious Looks, and amazingly wonderous Ways. Additionally, she can be described as:

delightful
sassy

hottractive (Several months ago - Kristy: "I bet you've called other girls 'hottractive,' thats rude!" Me: "no I made up that word 10 minutes ago specifically to describe you!")
cutedorable
gorgbeautious
princess-like
(Year or two ago - Me: "you're such a princess, we should put a conical hat on you!" Kristy: "the ridiculous thing is I know you're really thinking that!")
more-than-just-hottish
possessing breathtaking beauty
(empirically proven!)
kitten-like
...
etcetera etcetera

This entry cannot begin to convey the wonderousness that is my lovemustelid Kristy and how I adore her.

Kristy & the MacIntyre Sisters

Kristy visited this Weekend, which was awesometastic. She came in on a 10:35pm flight Friday night and I met her at the aeroport with a salad from Plutos.
Saturday we went to the Farmer's Market and had various Davis-related adventures before the party at the Foyerhouse that evening. Kristy made delicious cupcakes for the party. In addition to the cupcakes, there were four pumpkin pies, jello shots, beer cans, a keg of beer, and Dave marauding with the beer bong.
Kristy went as a St Pauli's Girl / German Girl, I went as Alex from Clockwork Orange. C-Bunch was a ninja that spoke out of sinc, Olivia was a girl in a red dress, Vater was a viking... Anthony Soto showed up with his girlfriend and they were both toys from toy story. Apparently Anthony largely made both costumes from scratch, crafty!
Sunday morning Kristy & I ate at Crepeville and tried to do as many Davis-related things as possible before she had to catch her 8:30pm flight back to San Diego. )=

On Halloween itself I decided to be one of those people who goes to class in costume. Every year I think about it but chicken out, so I decided to go for it. It was kind of awkward because only one out of every 100+ people was in costume. Additionally it turns out a lot of people have no idea what clockwork orange is so I got some weird guesses as to who I was. In my Brewing class however there was actually another Clockwork Orange person ... and as luck would have it he wasn't even the same character as me (Alex), because his friend had been Alex.

Someone I ran into said "oh so you're dressed as yourself for halloween?" To which I said "What? NO! I definitetly do NOT normally wear a hat!"

First day of the quarter today here at Davis.

Last week Kristy came up to OC to visit, and we went with Nidia & Marybelle to the Goat Hill Tavern, a place the guys at work talk about a lot. Unfortunately for various reasons the guys from work couldn't make it -- Bob was entertaining people at his place, Ryan had fallen off a ladder that morning and sprained his ankle, and Jeremy was responding to my textmesseges completely nonsensically .. I'm assuming he was already plastered somewhere or something. But Kristy finally got to meet Nidia & Marybelle so that was fun.

Then Kristy & I went down to San Diego. Saturday was her 22nd birthday, so along with her roommates Sashie & Lyrakeet, & Lyrakeet's sister Forest & Forest's boyfriend Warren we all went to Joe's Crab Shack because Kristy is all about the crab. And Sloshie made this thing called a trifle that was hellorz good.
That evening we went to an indie club, but it wasn't anything at all like Rock It here in Davis . )=

Sunday we went to the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and it was the awesome.

On Monday Kristy had her first day of work as an Assistant II in the office of the Dean of Engineering at UC San Diego. During the day I went to lunch with my friend from high school, Liz Gonzalez. Later on Chris Bunch arrived to visit everyone.
Tuesday morning Sloshkins drove me to the San Diego train station, from where I took the train to the Irvine station. My parents had dropped my car off there the night before so I drove it from there down to Mission Viejo to finish packing. Then up to UCI to get a copy of my UCI transcript (their registrar's office is so much more efficient than ours. Here it takes six days to get a transcript unless you pay rush fees, there they just print it out right then and there and toss in an unofficial copy for free, and the line isn't even as long). And then the long drive up to Davis.
Interesting notes including passing a truck full of green and white police cars that said "Miami Metro" on them in Los Angeles (I'm assuming they were for a movie set), and watching seven firetrucks go by as I got gas at the beginning of the hills north of Los Angeles and then noticing a lot of smoke rising over one of the ridges accompanied by an orange glow as the sky got darker.
I stopped in Fresno to get food and stretch my feet, and was able to meet up with my friend Aimee Anderson and hang out with her for half an hour or so while I ate and got some coffee.

Wednesday I was in Davis trying to get thte disaster I put my room in while packing up back in order. Ate with Chris Joy-Webb at Pita Pit. Almost went to the Grad since my friend Simone Davis had proposed doing that for her birthday, but the line snaked out for like a furlong and was filled with drunk little freshlings.

And that catches this up. Hopefully I'll stay more caught up now that I'm done working 70 hours a week d=

This weekend as usual I went and visited Kristykins in San Diego.
This upcoming Wednesday is my last day this summer in the bee mines. I'm staying down here for Kristy's birthday on Saturday (the 23rd), and then I'm going up to Davis on Monday or Tuesday.
Last week we had an ABC News reporter tag along one day for a story, and another day some grad student from USC was making some kind of documentary that somehow involved us. This upcoming week the owner of one of our competitors is going to meet with Boss Dave to discuss selling us his company. ...

I burned a CD for Bob & Jeremy. Its called Plazcrak II. Since the CD contains a sampling of the most awesome music ever created, I thought I'd enlighten you all with a list of what I included:

So this last weekend I went down to visit Kristy in San Diego again.
On Saturday evening Kristy, Sashie & I went to this free concert in downtown San Diego that was sponsored by Southern Comfort. Flogging Molly was headlining and they were of course awesome.

On Sunday morning my dad was participating in the La Jolla Rough Water one mile swim race so Kristy & I met my parents there. We ate at a little Mexican food place where Kristy got a delicious burrito. On the beach we enjoyed watching the numerous resident harbour seals.
I ran into my friend from HS Ryan Kennedy there, which was interesting because we'd been part of the same little group of people in HS, but I've lost contact with all of them so Ryan filled me in on the latest gossip. Most shockingly, our friend Nick Lucas, who had always been super Jewish, as a result of some strumpet breaking his heart has become super jesus-y. I could barely believe that sauce.

So I finally got around to watching that 9/11 conspiracy theory video "Loose Change" a few weeks ago when Chad posted about it. Just as I suspected, it was a pile of tin-foil-cap conspiracy theory. Unfortunately, I think many of the more politically naive may be alarmed by it, but for my part I found nearly every assertion to be highly suspect.

The many problems with it are far too numerous to even begin to address. In fact, the State Department Counter-Misinformation Team has issued a 10,000 page report in rebuttal to these conspiracy theories. Anyway, I just wanted to highlight one particularly glaring example of how misleading the "documentary" is:
At the end of part one the video is talking about the impact hole in the Pentagon. It compares the size of a hole in a photograph to the size of the cabin of a 757 and argues that the aircraft couldn't have made that hole. The photograph does indeed show what appears to be a large hole blasted through the side of a building ... however there is an anarchy symbol spraypainted on the wall beside it on one side, and a "no parking" sign on the other. Incidently there is not vehicle access on the inside of the ring (which is what the shot is supposed to be), and I deeply doubt anyone in the pentagon was about to paint an anarchy symbol on the wall beside that hole.
In conlusion, the video's producers knowingly used completely unrelated footage as "evidence" to make their delusional point.

People reacting to the Loose Change video?

(Not really)

Today Kristy, Tobin, and a cousin (third cousin) from Germany arrived at the Orange County Airport (John Wayne Airport). Today, incidently, nutty fundamentalists in England decided to try to blow up several airplanes and so airport security went apeshit worldwide. Good times. At John Wayne the check-in lines filled the terminal and spilled out into the parking garage.
Additionally, since my cousin Holly is marrying a British guy on Monday, I'd imagine he's got some relatives coming in from Heathrow --the current terror epicenter itself-- today and/or the upcoming days.

So Kristy and I have had two rats, Leia & Delilah, for about two years now. Since she got the kitten Bailey I've mostly had custody of them and I've had them down here this summer.
Delilah has been very sick for the last week or two, with a tumor on her lower abdomen and looking extremely frail. She hung on to life just long enough to see Kristy again this afternoon, and then she died. )=

This entry is post-dated from Saturday, in preparation for my expected death on 06-18-06.

Roommate Replacement
As of Saturday morning, Kristy had somewhere between 4 and 7 people living in her apartment ... its really unclear.
A. The Korean Girl(s)
Kristy's floormate Chrissy has left for the summer and subleased her room. Because Kristy was gone at the time, Kristy delegated her approval to Jardine, and Jardine approved "the Korean girl."
Chrissy doesn't even know the girl's name apparently, having her in her phone as "Korean girl." This is particularly silly in light of the fact that Chrissy herself is a "Korean girl," and grew up in Korea.
Whats more, in the several days since she's moved in, the Korean girl has had two female friends staying with her, and none of us knows which one actually is going to live there. There's even a concern that maybe they all plan on staying there... in which case there's going to need to be some reapportionment of the rent.
An important contributing factor to the confusion is that the girl has never introduced herself to anyone. She just started moving in and hasn't communicated with anyone other than some awkward "are you done with the bathroom?" type exchanges.
AND, most suchsauce of all, all three are TERRIFIED OF CATS. WTF. Who's afraid of cats seriously? Bailey sauntered into their room and all three started screaming. One of them came into Kristy's room and pointed to their room with horror, Kristy went in to find Bailey lounging placidly on the bed. She scooped up our furry purring friend and relocated him. WTF.
B. The Vet Student
This was earlier in the week. On Saturday afternoon Kristy came in and found another girl in their livingroom. "Hi, Becca must have told you about me" she introduced herself. "uh no" "oh... I'm Becca's new roommate."
Fortunately, this new girl, Veronica, seems really nice (well I personally haven't met her, but according to Kristy), and gets along with Bailey. Kristy overheard her talking to him when she was alone with him, so plus ten points.
C. In Conclusion
Two more peices of wisdom I would have thought one could take for granted, but apparently not:

  • You have to clear new roommates with your existing flatmates
  • For gods sake introduce yourself if your moving in with people. Especially if they're already living there, its just weird if you don't and unnecessarily insensitive to the fact that your moving in on their personal space.

Today, I give you three pictures... three mondo pictures outside an lj cut!!! Because its just that momentous an occasion. In the picture above, you can see Kristy ([livejournal.com profile] basicallyasap) doin a little dance as she crosses the stage to graduate.

After graduation her family and I went to this fancy little Italian restaurant in nearby Napa Valley for lunch. It was extremely delicious. Then we went to the Mondavi winery. Now, Kristy & I had assumed wine baron Robert Mondavi graduated from Davis, since he buys our school expensive presents like the Mondavi Center, & the Mondavi Institute, but it turns out he actually graduated from Stanford. And in the gallery of stuff about Mondavi at his winery, there aren't any references to the expensive edifices he's built at Davis -- clearly he is having a secret affair with Davis that he doesn't want Stanford to find out about.

Anyway, this next picture from the winery I have selected because it gives a good view of Kristy's adorable mortarboard with polkadots & kitten ears:

Anyway, Thursday night Kristy & I went to a party her friend Candice was having. Unfortunately it appears the shutter on my camera wasn't opening properly so I have no pictures of drunken debauchery from that event to share with you )= I must say though the highlight, what made it stand out from other parties, was that they were barbequeing chicken and it was delicious.
Friday night I just soaked in the fact that I finally didn't have to stress about anything anymore. Spent the evening leisurely reading about 5th Century history without pressure, and played the "Fall of Rome" Civilization III scenario a bit as the Visigoths.
Tonight Kristy's best friend Sashie is having a party, so there will of course be drunken debauchery. I will be dutifully embedded on the front lines of this adventure, just to report for you, the blogosphere!

And here is one more picture for you, Bailey getting into the spirit of graduation.
This is actually from Ben's graduation last December, but I never got around to doing anything with it.

Entry of the Day: Goes to Heather ([livejournal.com profile] emd), mainly because she's heroically returned from the hospital and rejoined the blog-melee asap! Truly a hero to be emulated. Also, she posted a poll, and who doesn't love filling out lj polls, seriously.
Random Picture of the Day: Oftentimes I like to check to see what flickr says the "most interesting" picture of a given tag is. Today I happened to check "graduation," of which over 165,000 pictures were tagged, and the most interesting picture I thought was pretty cool.. so much so that I decided to insert this blurb here to link to it: "Excelsior"

Still Working on a Paper - A hellish torture indeed.
Two Years Ago Today: 2 & 3 of 30 - Blogology II & III - I get off to a running start with my insane 30 in 14 quest with two entries about the very nature of blogging. Some critics, such as my troll-like older brother [livejournal.com profile] nibot would criticize me for being too recursive in this start, but I still think it was a worthwhile discourse. By the time I get to my actual 17th Entry on the 26th, its a concise little entry about how far I am from sanity.
Year Ago Today: 30 in 30 II - 17 - The Dark Side of Driving - On forgotten truths such as that you're supposed to actually drive in the rightmost lane possible rather than cruise in the left, and if you are in the left and there's a slow car in front of you and none to your right, you should not tailgate the car until it takes a hint, but rather you should be travelling in the right lane if its open....

aggienaut: (Bailey)

Alright so tonight I'm writing a paper on St Francis of Assisi. Or more specifically, I am to compare and contrast two movies about him, Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), in which he's portrayed as a flaming hippie, and Francesco (1989), in which this apparently famous guy named Mickey Rourke plays him and he's a bit more emo and rolling in the dirt oriented.
Anyway, I really don't mind writing about history, but I hate having to analyze films for a history class. Maybe if I'd signed up for a film class I'd expect this kind of crap, but I didn't. I signed up for a history class, and here I have to write several pages on some crap-ass director in the 70s wanted to portray a 13th century masochist as a hippie.

Anyway, so yeah I'm disgruntled, and in a hurry, so yeah. But by Wednesday I'll be done with finals, so I'll have almost as much free time as [livejournal.com profile] otimus, so y'all better look out.. at least until I die on the 18th.

No more kisses mom!   So for todays little entry, by popular demand, I am going to talk about Bailey. Bailey appears to be mostly an unusual breed called "Australian Mist," causing him to have an aweomse grey-&-black leopard pattern, with a golden belly. [livejournal.com profile] slosha got him at the Woodland animal shelter when he was wee (and sick). But Sloshie's allergic reactions to cats proved too much so his Other Mother Kristy took over Bailey-raising.
Because he was really sick for much of his wee-er weeks, he grew accustomed to being held constantly. As a result, he is much more cuddly than most (and especially male) cats. When one comes home after he's been left alone, he'll frequently mew until you pick him up and hold him for a bit.

Bailey is BFF with Kristy's flatmate Jardine's pet bunny. The bunny was named "Oreo" by Kristy's former flatmate Chrissy, who got him as a gift from some sorority older sib or something. Since Chrissy literally never took care of the bunny, however, it was adopted by Jardine, who just calls him "Mr Buns." Me I call it "Orca," since its patterned like an orca. One thing we can all agree on though is that "Oreo" is a dumb name.
But yeah, Orca & Bailey are best friends. Also, Bailey is fond of lying about on his back. In fact he's doing that right now! He's such a master of loungin.

Bailey likes to wake us up in the morning by licking our faces, something that kittenbehaviour.com (or something like that - I don't have time to check facts here) says is a sign of particular loving.

But he's not all well behaved. He likes to throw fiestas & pool parties. Crap fiestas that is! He gets a little carried away while burying shit in his litter box, and next thing you know he's just watching the litter fly for the fun of it. And then when we are emptying his litter box and have his little gifts all wrapped up in a plastic bag, he likes to bat at it, and we have to say "no bailey, no! NOT a pinata!" And if one leaves the toilet lid up (which is gross anyway people, seriously), he will sometimes decide to throw a pool party in it.

But mostly he's a good kitty, waging war on his eternal enemy, Dots on Walls, sitting in windowsills, and hanging out with his catmom Kristy. He's one of the most loving cats I've ever met.

And now for the only reason half of you read this crap: Entry of the Day Awards: [livejournal.com profile] xaositecte definitely wrote another entry which will be remembered in blog-memory for years to come (at least when I'm reminiscing about past 30 in 30s) - What the various 30 in 30 participants would do with two cows, respectively.

Previous Year in Summary - Or at least highlights of it. Yeah and cryptic references to missing my friend Kristy over the summer.
Year Ago Today: Controversial Sauce II - The Sanctity of Marriage - Man if I'd remembered I'd have linked back to this when I got you all hot & bothered about polygamous marriage this year. Anyway, last year's conclusion: as far as "abominations to the sanctity of marriage" are concerned, divorce is many times worse than allowing gay marriage; or at the very least, allow seperation if people were dumb and make eachother miserable, but disallow remarriage. Also, a picture of a typical Davis student behaving as we typically do.

Now, though earlier today I issued an encyclical urging you all not to post about your daily lives, I'm going to go ahead and do just that. But wait, before you declare me the antichrist, let me note that I bring you a photo essay -- a photo essay with drunken debauchery, people dressed up, and people practically naked! This, my friends, is almost always a recipe for an acceptable blogging. Also I already posted a less underbloggist entry today, and though I recused that one as being too recursive (being about 30 in 30 itself), I think together these two entries should meet blogthodox requirements.

Last night Kristy & I attended both my Φ A Δ (Pre Law) formal & then Gina Scheffel's "Dress Your Best .. Or Not!" Party.

Or see all these pictures and some more from thte party that I didn't work in here on flickr.

For no particular reason I thought I'd link to one of my all time very favourite 30 in 30 posts now to inspire you all: Jesus Cthulhu.
As to my best day 3 post choice, I'm not gonna beat around the bush, its going to [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz again. Though original megabloggist philosophy1 frowned upon the use of multimedia as taking away from the technique & craft, it was quickly seen that the use of images very greatly enhanced the achievable hilarity in entries. Even those without digital cameras can still find images on the internet to enhance their entries, and I would say I definitely encourage this. It helps counteract the debilitating effects of TL;DR, and frankly I think some of you need to turn some attention to the TL;DR issue.
And so my point is: that [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz's post for today is a brilliant example of how a simple office prank can be turned into a hilarious blogccomplishment through effective use of multimedia.

Another example of good use of multimedia I'd like to recognize is [livejournal.com profile] orwell_troll's first post (ever, actually). The simple addition of a 51st star to the US flag demonstrates how very simple a brilliant idea can be. In addition to the aforementioned Brent "Darth Laabs" Laabs, I'd like to give a shout out to the other people who have either joined 30 in 30 since my last post or I just forgot them at that time: [livejournal.com profile] gerbilgrrl, [livejournal.com profile] professor_david, the mysterious [livejournal.com profile] anonymous_frosh, [livejournal.com profile] punitrebel, and the venerable [livejournal.com profile] citizene (reporting from Singapore).

Two Years Ago: 30 in 30 I, Day 3 - [livejournal.com profile] shekb declares the pulitzer prize "tapped out." I didn't think the entry was that funny but comments from other participants seem to laud it as blogging gold. [livejournal.com profile] lerani posted about Dennis Quaid & the Sharks, and how you can get him to touch your enemies. [livejournal.com profile] stephenl decides that “The fact is, girls can't keep their pants on when they encounter a guy who's big into anime,” which is further proven by the fact that [livejournal.com profile] shid is now engaged. Also, bloglarious as usual, [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz posts a must-see entry about gummy bear porn - I swear its tasteful ::caugh, get it?::.
Year Ago Today: 30 in 30 II, Day 3 - From the Field - Phonepost abilities unexpectedly failing me, I desperately make a post from some random person's house in Santa Barbara. Not much of a post, but I had to use maximum intrepidness to get it done at all and its the thought that counts, no?

The Journey Home
I was up most of last night reading about people with names like Vercingetorix, Vortigern & Catigern. Then, since I've managed to accumulate some important tasks at the Courthouse I had to go into work. Finally I escaped from there, but had to AMPAC Governor-General Sameer for an hour on the phone about the conference we are in charge of putting together next April, which was all good and well but it was hellorz hot out and I really wanted to go home and take a nap. Then I got home only to find someone parked in my parking place. The office determined the offending vehicle belonged to the guy who should have the spot next to it. When maintenance man Modesto contacted him regarding this, the guy said with attitude "well someone was in MY spot," as if that justified it all (and I hope you all know that you are retarded if you think it solves anything by parking in the person's spot next to you when someone has parked in yours). Finally I made it into my apartment only to find two catsup smeared plates belonging to my flatmate Jason on the livingroom floor, where he seems to think they belong.
This latter offense is in clear violation of the policy my roommates and I had agreed to unanimously, that dishes must remain in one's room if one cannot clean them immediately. I've decided my current policy for dealing with this is moving the dishes for him when he's not home ... onto his bed.
Also the solution to the best way to confront him regarding the fact that he's in flagrant violation of something he just recently agreed to with minimum awkwardness came to me after some thought... next time he's home and I find him in a clear violation of policy, or if he asks me about my relocation of dishes to his room I think I'll ask him in an earnest manner if he thinks the policy is too draconian and needs to be changed. That way I will come across not as accusatory but compromising, while he'll be faced with either feeling like a complete flake by saying this simple policy is too difficult (which I really doubt he'll do), or reaffirming the policy in direct reference to his plate behaviour.
Anyway, then I was finally able to take a nap, but in my delirium was unaware that I'd left my phone in my car so I missed a call I'd been waiting for regarding some stew. )=

30 in 30 III
Anyway, the result of all this is that I'm not really feeling like a top-notch slinger of hilarity at the moment, so 30 in 30 III is off to an inconspicuous start for me this year.

So far we have 30 in 30 posts by [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz, [livejournal.com profile] otimus, [livejournal.com profile] pavel_lishin, [livejournal.com profile] roter_terror & [livejournal.com profile] shid. Best entry so far I think is roter_terror's: "Listen up, folks. 30 in 30 is here and I am not ready for it! THEREFORE YOU GET BABY ANIMALS... with a twist! Here are 16 of the best baby animals I could dig up at a moment's notice. Your job is to vote for the best."

Anyway, you may all be relieved to to know that one of my goals for this 30 in 30 is to try to steamline my blogging by spending no less than 30 minutes per post (30 in 30.. IN 30?)

Meanwhile in the real world
In other news, last friday we had the initiation party for the newest batch of Φ A Δ pledglings. On Sunday I went to recently-former Califorina Aggie Editor-in-Chief Matty Jojola's party. It was a very interesting mix of people, with four guys wearing Davis Players Society polos hanging out with Kalen Gallagher in one corner while from the opposite side of the political spectrum city council candidate Rob Roy campaigned in the kitchen wearing a suit & tie. I got a scandalous picture of him eating a watermelon rind with some girl, as well as another of him giving someone a classic politician handshake, I'll put them up when I get a chance. Also my fellow justice & reverend Tim Coady was there, marrying people at random and granting indulgences.

On Tuesday most of the Court came to the Internal Affairs Commission to discuss their opinions on the Court. Also this day we were reinforced by an editorial in The Aggie advocating that our Court be strengthened rather than abrogated. IAC was unwilling to concede anything, but none of them would speak in support of any of their arguments (other than that ASUCD is a business), preferring rather to try repeatedly to end the whole conversation by saying there was no legislation regardnig the subject. Aside from the fact that the discussion the preceding week had ended with "we'll talk more about this next week," I've certainly been around long enough to know that there's always "no plans," until suddently there are, and the plans are never put forward until after the political maneouvering stage.
nbsp;  Also they made an obvious effort to put us off as long as possible, which I thought was kind of petty & desperate. Regarding ASUCD as a business, it went around a few times until Chairman Harms announced his revelation that "ASUCD is not a government OR a business, it is an association." To which I responded that that was great but "what we are specifically arguing about here is that Kai Savaree-Ruess said ASUCD is 'not a public institution ... but in fact a business,' and a Court has no place in a business. If you say we're not a business but an association, you're not backing Kai's argument that I am here to counter..." I believe 90% of arguments improperly lost are lost because one allowed the opponent to change what the argument was about.. never let them get away with this.

Anyway, since then Paul Harms has ceased to be the Internal Affairs Commission Chairman...

Jello Shot Night - What we all did before we had 30 in 30 to occupy ourselves: [livejournal.com profile] slosha's dorm-mates throw a party which shall live on in infamy as "jello shot night." ...Kristy is eventually determined to be missing and is then found wandering aimlessly three floors down outside... d=
Two Years Ago Today: 30 in 30 I - Day 1 - [livejournal.com profile] mrkevincostner was actually first out of the blocks at 10:20am, followed by [livejournal.com profile] stephenl who at 12:56 posted the official call to action. [livejournal.com profile] apoplecticfittz began with a new version of his recent Frasky Awards; [livejournal.com profile] lerani started with an amusing story about a retarded lawyer that managed to exponentially exacerbate her own ethics violation; [livejournal.com profile] fragglerocker84 started out strong with a well composed entry apparently about people on her vollyball team (its very well done for its subject matter, but the subject isn't the most interesting to random bloggers); and [livejournal.com profile] feuders also vows for the course of 30 in 30 to drink no beer (except for a number of frequent exceptions), eat no fast food, and run five miles every day. Additionally, [livejournal.com profile] jdryznar declares he's going to make 30 posts in 30 days about politics, while [livejournal.com profile] incomple also just posts half baked ravings against conservatives (at least for the first five I checked today).
Year Ago Today: 30 in 30 II - Day 1 - First day of the second annual 30 in 30. Best entry for this day has been identified as Professor David, with second place going to [livejournal.com profile] otimus (who has since deleted his all his 30 in 30 II entrie, because he does strange things like that)

aggienaut: (phone)

Internet is still down. Today I went into the complex office to talk to the manager about it. When it came up that I'd left the techinican a messege on Friday detailing the problem and never heard back, the manager called first the technician, then his supervisor, and then the company owner, as each didn't answer their phones. She left them all angry / saucy messeges saying things like "this is not how we treat customers around here."
Despite the fact that I absolutely loathe not having internet access, it made me a bit uncomfortable that she was giving them such a haranguing on my account. I suppose some "customers" might feel more special for that kind of treatment, but it made me want to clam up and not say anything that was going to get the techs in any more trouble. d=

Anyway, so Sunday, my birthday, Kristy & I went to Rock It at The Grad. As usual it was good times.

Emosnail Fashion Exclusive
So apparently there is a hideous new fashion trend: belts worn waist high. In my humble opinion, this "style" is a misconceived fashion abomination on a level with mullets, if not worse. Please, if one of your friends appears to be even considering participating in this depraved act of aesthetic barbarism, sock them in the neck. If god forbid you think you yourself might be about to consider securing your belt around your upper torso, I urge you to immediately present yourself to a trusted roommate or other nearby individual and beg that they immediately wallop some sense into you before you commit fashion thoughtcrime.

In less sordid news, Kristy put a bunch of new pictures up on Flickr. In addition to the usual cute kittens, my grandparentinlaws' dog Daisy is prominently featured.
Also, here's a picture of that delicious nutella pizza Kristy made the other day.

Cell Phone MIA - Phone is missing in action, presumed POW of Unitrants. )= Also I cake Φ A Δ pledge-parent Nick Kory in the face.
Year Ago Last Wednesday: CoHo Shows - Roxie brings a psychobilly band to campus and I hang out and watch it, later (that same day) Amie Gutierrez brings an electronica show to campus and I hang out there with Roxie. Also aggie columnist & aeroflot hater Ian Watson is fired.
Year Ago Today: Birthday 2005 - "its a good thing I'm a frat boy now or I'd basically have no friends, basically." A year later I doubt even they'd show up if I scheduled something. (= Anyway, I haven't scheduled a birthday celebration yet because I haven't yet found a date for which more than one person other than Kristy and I would attend. But back to a year ago: Philip Neustrom got a digital SLR camera, making the rest of us obsolete, riots broke out in Uzbekistan as I had predicted, and Kristy and I get an awesome video of frolicking squirrels, which has probably since been lost forever in my computer crash. )=

PS: Φ A Δ pledglings are after every last point they can scrape up this last week. If any pledglings come across this they can get three points for mentioning this mention to me. They can also get five points for registering to vote in Davis, or for anyone else they get to register in Davis. Frankly, such civil-responsibility ought to be a requirement. (=

Internet's been down for three days. SBC said the entire area was down, but ThickAir, whom we get internet directly from (through SBC lines) said that it should be working, but I wasn't showing up on their network. Technician said he'd reset the network and it should be up in twenty minutes. That was two days ago. Situation hasn't improved, and the technician hasn't answered or returned my calls since.
So in order to go online I have to go into the freezing study lounge. Now, temperature was pushing 98 outside today, and everyone was complaining about it, but in here, I had to go get a coat. d=

Anyway, today is my birthday (No one would know if it weren't for Facebook. I'm not really doing anything special, though Kristy & I might go to Rock It this evening.
On Friday, for my birthday, Kristy made me a fancy dinner that consisted of, among other things, gnocchi (which is one of my favourite things ever), and for dessert delicious nutella pizza (pictures coming soon). She also got me some real port (I've only had $5.99 port before (= )
My actual birthday started at 12:00 last night with Kristy calling me while I was hanging out at a campfire at Lake Berryessa with Jenn Smyrnos & Nicole Farazian, two very awesome people.

Saturday was an official-unofficlal* Φ A Δ retreat at Lake Berryessa. It was fun. It was attended by Tessie Cross, Alex Estrada, Gena Rinaldi, Jenn, Nicole, and myself.
Now Lake Berryessa is about half an hour away, and, it turns out, directly on our own Russel Boulevard.
Russel, the main thoroughfare of the city of Davis: leaves town to the west; becomes a small squiggle of a road between farms; becomes a main thoroughfare in nearby Winters; becomes Highway 128; and goes right past Lake Berryessa.

* I'd like to go on the record that I think the "official-unofficial" categorization of events is dumb. Its not against our rules to have alcohol at events, so thats not a problem. Theoretically it has been argued that this categorization releases the fraternity of some liability -- I don't really buy that though, if something did come up I doubt any court would be impressed by the officially-unofficial nature of things. Really its primary effect is to violate the spirit of Φ A Δ bylaws, by explicitly reserving the right to violate Φ A Δ bylaws.
