Avast! Tis talk like a pirate day today! (Friday Sept 19th)

Also I was thinking of hoisting the sails and raising some flags and participating in this shenaniganry that is LJ Idol.

And apparently one is to declare their intent to do so before eight bells this day. So be doing so, but I may claim later it was the grog what made me do it.

and here's an appropriate picture I took the other day:

Day 11 - Wednesday, Sept 4th - Weaverville to Davis (Map) (Janelle, Myself, Garnesh the British Guy, & Dave the Towtruck Driver)

So we wake up in an empty lot in the middle of Weaverville. We bummed around town until around 1pm I think the mechanics announced that they had figured out the problem and they didn't have the part we needed and it would take five days to get it there (!!).
So we arranged to have the car towed to my awesome mechanic in Davis (203 miles, but Janelle has Super Awesome Triple AAA Status with 200 miles of towing (I only get 100 /= )). So they put the Krismobile on a flatbed and Dave (who had been our towtruck driver the night before) joined us for the around three hour trek to Davis.

And so we arrived in Davis that evening in style on the flatbed. My super awesome aunt and uncle Ben & Bev were awesome enough to let us crash at their place even though my cousin Holly and her husband Simon were visiting at the same time (which was actually excellent because I would have missed their whole visit if I hadn't crossed paths with them there (they currently live in England))
While walking back to Ben and Bev's from down town this creepy guy started walking with us and wouldn't leave us. It was the creepiest thing thats ever happened to me in Davis and I was like oh great now Gargamel and Janelle are gonna think Davis is weird. After polite hints that he should leave us failed I progressed to "am I going to have to call the cops?" and he tried to argue I wouldn't have a case, so I told him that when we got to the Co-op (which was coming up ahead and a reasonable well lit public place) I would be calling the police and waiting there until they arrived. He said he'd call the police himself and say I was following him, but when we stopped there he kept walking and so we were finally able to backtrack back to Ben and Bevs. d=

Went out again and strolled about town. Gargamel apparently saw a palm tree for the FIRST TIME EVER (wtf aren't they all over tv?) and was astounded ("what IS that?! it looks like a giant toilet brush!!"). Eventually we ended up at the local brewery, Sudwerks, where not much was going on but we had ourselves our own little pubquiz asking eachother trivia questions.

Dear Everyone,

Today is Talk Like A Pirate Day. I like the idea of Talk Like a Pirate Day.

HOWEVER. Just adding "ARR!!!" to every sentence gets old pretty much immediately. And please note that today is NOT "terrible make-you-want-to-kill-yourself groaner joke day." We all know what the pirates favourite letter is, etc etc, so please keep that bilge to yourselves, you scurvy curs.

If you're going to attempt to "talk like a pirate" I say either change it up with as many creative and wide-ranging nautical references you can think of or keep your anchor-locker shut.

Otherwise, I may have to keelhaul you. ;)

Talk Like A Pirate Day 2004 - A fine example of how to properly talk like a pirate in my opinion, and also if you haven't filled out the poll (What would your pirate name be / name your pirate ship) you should sail back and do so!!

From the Archives! Talk Like A Pirate Day 2004

So yestertoday evening me parents left me in command of the land-ship [house] for about the thirdly time ever. So of course I did what any enterprizing young corsair would do with such an opportunity:
I sat in the hold [my room] and intended to play me some Civ III on the shiney magic box, but a beautiful young lass named Jessiska from the [livejournal.com profile] afoxygoddess convinced me to attend a right proper concert with her, complete with orchestra, choir, & even saucy opera singers.
But of course as always this adventure was frought with danger and temptation -- I briefly dropped anchor at Diedrichs Coffee [since then all 55 ships of the Diedrichs fleet have been captured by the bloodthirsty empire of Starbucks]on my way out to bring on supplies and the dread-pirate cool kyle and crew were downing grog under the dock [bridge]. But I resisted and sailed up the five to meet the saucy lass at Chapman College.
Shortly we tired of these doldrums, and other desires took hold of us if you know what I mean. If you don't, I mean we were feelin up for some pillaging. So we marauded until we came to an italian fast food place (!) and pillaged it for eatings. And man they had some good hard-tack [breadsticks].
Then we went back to Jessiska's quarters and like any modern pirate surely would we heartily watched The Wonder Years and drank tea. Incidently there was also this Canadian yarn called Degrassi that frankly made me wish I could make all associated characters walk the plank (especially the girl without eye-brows and the boy (her ex?) whose eyebrows are huge and probably control him).

Four Years Later: Some notes on things related to this entry four years later, moved to a comment because you probably don't care.
