aggienaut: (30 in 30)

Tomorrow will be the start of 30 in 30 IV, carrying the proud tradition into its fourth consequtive year.
As most of you know, in 30 in 30 participants write 30 entries in the 30 days of June. Usually we start out with around 20 people ready to go, and end with about half a dozen survivors. You too could become one of the few, the proud!

More than just writing a lot of livejournal entries (or, those of you joining us from the Facebook RSS-feed of this can join in via facebook note-writing!), 30 in 30 has always been about rethinking your blogging, improving upon it. Under the pressure of an entry a day, one finds themselves constantly examining their life and surroundings for that which is interesting, or pondering how to best communicate the latest to their friends in a way that isn't dreadfully dull. As such, I think the 30 in 30 exercise has effects beyond merely the blogosphere, and encompasses a lot more than just a lot of blognerdery.

My favourite aspect has always been the sense of community that develops among the 30 in 30 participants. Every June abuot a dozen people who know eachother just barely, if at all, set down to do this together. Over the month they build off eachothers themes, develop inside jokes, and get to know eachother's writing styles.

An infusion of new participants is necessary to keep each year a little different and new. As such, I would like to extend the invitation to those who haven't done so before. And/or if you happen to know anyone who might be interested, please tell them about it.

And again, those reading this out in Facebookland, you're welcome to participate -- though its recommended you get a livejournal in order to fully integrate.

In Conclusion: You Should Join 30 in 30 IV

  • to get to know a new and hilarious community of people
  • to prove you have the endurance!
  • to prove you have the technique and craft!
  • to reexamine your skills of communicating what you find interesting
  • to reexamine what is interesting about your life

Is there some criteria about what constitutes a blog entry? I mean, you have to have standards.

Presumably. On any account a critical tenets of 30 in 30 is to strive to improve the interest of ones entries to ones readership, often with attention to measurable feedback such as comments. There have been a few incidents of participants posting one or two "omg I almost forgot today!" posts, but its certainly frowned upon, to say the least.

Awesome! Indeed, it may be the antedote to whatever caused you to make vague allusions to concern regarding atrophying writing skills. Also if you know any other former Aggie / writing type people who would be interested that would be excellent.

Metaposts (posts about blogging) should definitely not count. In fact, they should count against you!

Would you be down for it, or would you be up for it?

Yeah it was [livejournal.com profile] 30in30. I'm not sure if its going to be in use again this year, I haven't gotten ahold of the girl that was admining it yet though so I don't know if its going to be operational this year. I'd start a community myself but a lot of the old guard is very resistant to centralization. I still might though, especially if the more contankorous old people aren't involved this year.

Yeah pictures are fine, especially if you put effort into getting interesting pictures (and don't just take pictures of whats in front of you at the moment every day) (=
