Day Four - New Orleans!
Jun. 21st, 2007 04:50 pm
We're currently in New Orleans here (it still exists!) with Mr Aaron Aviv. We have successfully talked him into joining our expedition (he's currently on ten day leave from the Coast Guard)!
Within the hour we'll be departing for Atlanta, Georgia, where we'll briefly rendezvous with
Tomorrow (Day 5) it looks like we'll shoot up to Washington DC to see the sights. Depending on how long Washington Entertains us, we'll be up in New York by that night probably. Day 6 will be the midpoint of our expedition ... and we'll be at our furthest destination! And people said it couldn't be done!
Here is what the route ahead of us currently looks like. Depending on time we can easily lop off Seattle and save 11 hours. We have a very long stretch of the midwest there with nothing to stop for d=
Anyway, pictured above is one picture from the Cadillac Ranch before Amarillo yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't get around to editing very many of yesterdays other pictures yet. )=

Date: 2007-06-22 02:21 am (UTC)I'm told that the Coke World in Atlanta is fun, even though you have to pay to get in and all the while you know it's just one big advertisement for Coca Cola.
I have a bunch of recommendations for Rochester of course. Check out the Rochester Wiki. Some ideas: stop at Custom Brewcrafters (in Honeoye Falls) for a free tour and generous free samples of their delicious beers. Eat delicious Barbecue at Dinosaur BBQ in downtown Rochester (washed down with delicious CB Cream Porter). Be sure to explore the Abandoned Subway.
Niagara Falls is awesomer from the Canadian side; if you do cross over to Canada, you might as well go over the top of Lake Ontario (through London and Windsor to Detroit) rather than going south of it. That part of Canada is pretty boring, but the city of London is actually a pretty happening/partying college town if you persevere and get through the sprawl between the city and the highway. (Toronto is also kind of on the way.) Detroit is delightfully abandoned and actually has a "People Mover" like the ride at Disneyland. Right out side of Detroit is Ann Arbor, home of UMich, where you doubtlessly know people. If in Ann Arbor, many beers may be had at Ashley's.
Are you intentionally going to Connecticut? If not, go straight north through Pennsylvania and check out the town Centralia. Here there is an underground coal fire. Periodically the ground collapses into the smoldering hell below. Zesty!
