Dave here is currently really interested in biodiesel (or other such alternative fuels). I'm presently scouring the internet for information but I thought some of you ([livejournal.com profile] nibot, [livejournal.com profile] likeabikemike?) might have some insight on the subject.

As usual we have a budget in the four digit range for hare-brained schemes, as well as manpower and such. So what do you guys know about the feasibility of converting a pick-up truck to biodiesel?

Well. Is it a diesel pickup truck?

If so: easy. If not: hard.

Then you'll need a new (diesel) engine. Or a new truck with a diesel engine.

That's doable I think. Dave's very serious about the project. What do you know about the feasibility once we have something with a diesel engine?

From what I gather used oil from restaurants requires I small amount of refining which we may or may not be able to do ourselves, but there is a retail source of biodiesel fuel in Mission Viejo anyway.
