Does that include taxes & fees? It doesn't sound like a very unusual fare.

I just searched for flights from LAX to AMS (Amsterdam) leaving in two weeks. Flights start at $490 from U.S. Airways, which comes up to a total of $660 with taxes and fees.

$600 from CA to London is pretty normal for this time of year... depending on when you go (and where specifically you go), you may be able to do better.
Looks like united is doing lax to london nonstop for 545 including fees.
Although then you have to pay for your drinks...
