[s]Green[/s] Red Room Holiday Party!

   It's that time of year again, time for the Emo-snal Green Room Holiday Party Emo-snal Red Room Holiday Party! You see, Idolists will be familiar with the LJ Idol "Green Room" (apparently named in reference to something on some obscure television show), wherein people just sort of hang out and comment to one another idly and eat fictional cookies.
   Well this entry is Like That. Just hang out and comment to one another and enjoy the fictional cookies (gingerbread, in all kinds of strange shapes!). But it also is apparently nothing at all Like That, because as we learned last year the LJI green room is a sacred and holy place and taking its name in vain will result in a dramapocalypse. Well I don't agree that it's better to throw no party at all, but let's be clear, this is a "wildly unofficial totally unendorsed nothing-to-do-with-lj-idol greenroom-like Holiday Party," just like last year.

There will of course be glögg, and also hot apple cider. gratefuladdict is in charge of warm apple pies and whirled is in charge of strategic placement of mistletoe. And there will once again be a rousing game of "pin the wreath on clauderainsrm"

Showing my 7 years of working in television here, but....

"Green Room" (apparently named in reference to something on some obscure television show)

It's actually just a room (used to be painted green I guess), where the guests of a TV show sit and wait for their time to be on set. This is usually after hair and makeup and is just a space to relax, have a snack, chit chat with other guests, and watch the taping of the show when they're not on the set.

It's also the place where savvy audio techs will turn on microphones to do sound checks because the guests aren't "trying" to sound correct. Which makes for some interesting eavesdropping when you're sitting in the control room. Which is also why anyone who is ever going to be on TV is told to consider any microphone they have on them or near them as "hot" or turned on.

When I was heavily involved in theater the green room was where we'd hang out before we had to go on stage--rather than waiting in the wings for an hour. So I pretty much laugh at the thought of someone claiming proprietary rights on it. :p

Yeah, I was actually in drama in high school (shh don't tell anyone!) so I was already familiar with what a green room was, but I thought I'd feign a little more unfamiliarity with "American Idol" just for the sake of it. :D

Since I gave up caffiene during my sailing adventure, after some experiments with caffiene free herbal tea I ended up mostly drinking hot apple cider. Mmm. It tastes great in a mug while you're standing bow watch on the front of a ship that's crashing through waves!

Yeah, and its understandable to assume from the way I wrote that that I don't know what it is (though, really, I mean I looked up the history of christmas trees before writing this, I'm OCD about looking up anything I don't know!)

I've never claimed proprietary rights to the name. As you've said, it's a common usage term.

However I have said that it is completely improper for someone (as was done in previous years) to post *in Idol* for people to come to *their personal LJ* to attend an event *using the same name as something that happens within Idol*

It's just poor form. If Kris wants to have something in his own LJ (or anyone else for that matter) that's one thing. If they are using Idol as an way of promoting their event, then it's another matter entirely. Which, if you follow the links, you will see that was where the problem happened in the past and he is avoiding this time. (other than making a reference to it)

Yeah I'm doing all of my LJing from my phone, which makes following links kind of difficult. So all I saw was someone getting upset that he used the term. The current rules say not to promote shit in the community without clearing it first so I figured that had always been the case.

The reason I like the term is because it's familiar to me and I know exactly what I ought to do when I see it.

Also, to be fair, I didn't think *you* would actually claim the term--just others claiming it in your name.
