In the above video I talk about bees, and smoke, and how the bees feel about smoking, and a bee keeps trying to crawl into my right ear, thinks she's a real comedian she does.

Smoking the bees to calm them down is better than just suiting up and letting them try to sting you, since the alarm pheromone, if released, attracts pests like hive beetles to the hives. The alarm pheromone, incidentally, smells like bananas, causing me to instantly notice and become alarmed when a shipmate was eatig a banana muffin behind me in the dark on Sunday aboard the topsail ketch Hawaiian Cheiftain.

the YouTube is there, no frowny face and very educational especially the running in a straight line as far and as fast as you can part, certainly works for me. So, as always thanks for sharing. BTW what's the LJ 15:00PST thing?

I envy your job mightily. That was an awesome video. The next time I get called crazy for petting the bumbles or comuning with the honey bees, I'm going to point them to this. Thank you for sharing. :)

Haha yes I am the more crazy. And I do indeed pet bumblebees myself! Sometimes overheard saying "who's a good bee???" while doing so....

I am afraid of bees. This was very hard to listen to.

I am too (bad experience at a formative age!), but I actually think it's easier to listen to because I know then the bees can't get me :) It'wa s a little freaky when they were buzzing around near the camera, because it sounded like they were trying to get in my ear. But I got used to it, and was really glad they weren't :)

I actually swatted the air a couple times. The audio was terribly real!

The buzzing keeps making me paranoid that my room is being invaded! I loved watching though, very informative... if a little unnerving ;)

I can imagine a bee trying to go in my ear would also be one of my least favourite things! LOL.

There weren't any bees lurking in your cap at the end were there? XD

How fascinating! Do you think Colony Collapse is going to be an issue or is the bee population recovering?
