HMS Bounty nearly 24 hours ago now. 14 of 16 crewmembers were rescued safely.

Been following the news like hawk all day, and it makes me a bit mad when I see people expressing sadness for the loss of the ship without mentioning the missing crew. Yeah it was a cool ship, lord knows I love tallships, but people died here. ):

Any chance they could still find those two? I'm very sad for the loss of your friends:(

I am sorry. Isn't there still at least some hope for the missing crewman?

I'm going ahead and saying "never say never" and not describing him as dead but its hard to imagine how he could survive 24 hours in that water d:

What happened? Is this related to the hurricane?

Yes the tallship HMS Bounty was trying to skirt past it and get out to Florida, but ended up pretty much in the middle of it. The generators failed, eliminating their ability to pump out the water coming in, and I think they lost their engines as well, with water coming in at two feet an hour the boat was relatively quickly on its way down. 14 crewmembers made it safely to life rafts. From what I've heard the remaining two got swept overboard, one was found floating in the water and pronounced dead and the last, the captain, is still missing.

now that he is most likely no longer with us, its actually a little less stressful I feel, than earlier when I felt like while I was sitting here he was at that very moment bobbing around in the water. Like last night I was stayed up till 2 following news updates and then I felt like I should go to bed, but at the same time felt almost guilty about it, climbing into my nice warm bed knowing that there were two people lost in the ocean...

When I heard the news, I thought of you. Here's to some good people, doing what they loved. *raises a glass*

Yes I just read an article where people were expressing sadness for the ship with no mention of the people lost. As I read it, I hoped it was callous editing. I cannot imagine it otherwise.

I did like the quote form the 42 year old woman who didn't make it. SHe told her mom on the phone, (paraphrasing) "remember, if I don't come out of this I was doing something I loved." Wow. What presence. And there is some comfort there. Not enough, of course, but it makes it a little easier knowing that was her mindset.

Just found out that my dear friend (and former roommate) had been onboard. She'd just started as the chef... thankfully she's okay, but it's horrible to see any loss of life.

Oh she must have been my friend Morgan's replacement -- Morgan was the cook but got off right before the fateful sail. What's your friend's name?

Jessica. She'd been working on boats around the Caribbean, private charters and whatnot. I'd not talked to her lately, but I know she'd been wanting to work up to doing some more fun stuff.

Hopefully this doesn't scare her off from her dream.

Hopefully not. The surviving crew is lucky to have gotten away with their lives, but of course they've lost all the personal possessions they had on board d:
