I've been meaning to post about this but I only learned while I was already busy with vacation, but three weeks ago [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp passed away. Alex has long been one of my favorite people on livejournal. In addition to being a great guy, I loved absolutely every entry he wrote for LJ Idol. I had long been meaning to go back and read all his LJ Idol entries I missed ... which I still haven't. He didn't happen to use a tag for them did he? Anyway I hope LJ doesn't purge his account now ): But even when he was making his nearly daily little updates, which he did in an upbeat manner until just two weeks from the end, it was always pleasant to see them come up on my feed. He will be missed. ):

I am so sorry. It's hard to lose a friend, even if they're someone you only know on-line.

Reading this entry sent me to look at his LJ. I'd never read him before, and I'm sorry that I didn't discover his entries sooner. I think I'd have very much enjoyed reading along. Good writing and apparently a good person. I do wish him fair winds, and condolences to his LJ friends.

Yeah, when he put his mind to really writing an entry like for hte "LJ Idol" writing competition he could write one hell of an entry. His day-to-day entries were often just a few lines about how much translation work he'd done, but it was always nice to see them because one can read it in seconds and just be cheered by his presence.

He had drifted into family friend status since my mom (also a livejournaler) was facebook friends with not only him but his wife and daughter and I was fb friends with him too. He had a unique life and perspective and I know I'll miss him in my life.

Submitted a request. I'm sure at least one other person did too.

Well that is a shock - I was only vaguely aware that he was ill.

I did not know he had died!
Thank you!
I follow him on here, but nobody had posted anything that I saw - I admit I am not on here daily the way I used to be...

Yeah I wouldn't have caught it except that mom mentioned it. Otherwise I might have been suddenly like "hey where'd alex go?" two months from now!

As so many people have left LJ for other venues, I say that quite often...

It seems so unfair that such a kind, talented, resilient person should be gone so suddenly, so young. I had hoped he would beat the cancer, and I still can't quite believe he's gone. I so enjoyed him as a writer and as a presence, and can't imagine how devastated his family must be.

He and his daughter were up in his old stomping grounds in Scotts Valley. He contacted me to see if I wanted to get together with them. I took them to our range for some shooting and then had lunch with them before they continued on their way. He was the same in person as in his journal. I'll miss him, too.

As far as I known, these accounts don't get purged. I've been here since early 2001. I've seen a number of people pass on to the other side. Their LJs are still there. RIP.

I submitted a request to memorialize his account, as per instructions someone left in another comment here, and they approved it, so now it won't!

Hey haven't heard from you lately what's the latest?

Cool.

I dunno, man. I update here and there. I leave comments here and get no response. I mean, that's OK and all, but it makes me comment less.

Here is one of my really good LJ friends (and real life friends) who passed on: [livejournal.com profile] pintolimo
https://pintolimo.livejournal.com/profile

He kicked it in 2007. His LJ is still here.

I try to reply to all the comments and read my friends list once a day .... but then sometimes I'll be pretty bad about it for a period of time :-[ For awhile last year I wasn't very into it because I think most of my old friends had left, but after adding a lot of people and building up the social atmosphere again I think its better these days.

Yeah. I get you, man. No worries. I feel similarly pretty often. Though my LJ is not nearly as popular as yours.

A particular comment I made about bottling mead went without response. I thought I had provided some practicle/workable info. I'm not sure where your original post is.

Oh I remember we were talking about that. That sounds like something I'd have particularly wanted to follow up on. It could have even been that I didn't comment on it when I first saw it because I wanted to give a better resposne than I could from my phone on the fly and then it got buried and forgotten. ): I'll have to have a look for it when I have a moment!
