Today the first vaccines were administered, in the UK. (and the second person to receive it was named William Shakespeare!)
This is the 40th consequtive day with no cases here in Victoria, Australia.
209,756 new cases today in the United States, 2,960 deaths. The hospitals in my home county (Orange, California) are all at ICU capacity now.

One thing that's kind of funny over here is that we no longer need to wear masks outside, and we can go eat in the restaurants and pubs and don't have to wear a mask while sitting at the table, so in effect we put on a mask for the thirty seconds between the door and sitting down. Normally I don't poke fun at any mask wearing activities and I understand and agree with the mix of rules that cause this circumstance ... but still its a kind of funny sign-of-the-times sort of ritual I wanted to jot down for posterity.

I feel crazily lucky to be living in Perth whilst all of this is happening. The biggest effect of the pandemic that I ever had to go through was when the aged care place that I worked at shut itself off from visitors - and then later on to people without a flu jab (this was very much welcomed by our nursing staff in all regards!). Other than that, it’s been pretty normal-ish. I hope I haven’t jinxed it all by saying it out loud now 😬

It is very frustrating being an American these days.

If we have a living breathing leader in America, lives would've been saved. This division over masks is embarrassing.

I'm still wearing a flipping mask even if I'm just going out of my apt to check the mail.

Rising numbers here, and I'm used to wearing a mask any time I'm indoors any place other than my office or my flat. Having mask in my shirt pocket and a plastic freezer bag of extras in my shoulder bag just seems like the stuff of everyday.

Yes I think Australians did a great and consequent job. Here they tries to stop rising number with a mild "lock-down"...and failed. We have too many who dont keep the rules when no one is looking. Too many arguing against the measurements nessesary.
In summer we had numbers of about 200-400 a day germany wide now we have an avaerage of 20 000 per day. In summer we could go to restaurants and even theatres. They have perfct consepts. But now everything is closed again, But as the numbers don't went down after that, I presume that the restaurants werent the reason for rising numbers.
They discussing a harder lockdown but hesitate again because of christmas. We have rules not to meet with more that 5 people and no more than two households. The major problem ist, they cant controll what people do in private.

I got used in wearing a mask. Downtown you have to wear one on the streets as well and of course indoors. Restaurants are closed but we try to support them by ordering food once or twice a week. I am personally not influnced by all this. I can perfektly work from home and all my family in ok (so far, fingers crossed). I stay mostly indoors only for shopping, mostly on farmers markets, leave the house.

I am angry about those who cant keep the rules for 4-8 weeks...that is the problem.

What really boggles my mind is we had a lot of anti-maskers here and they're definitely a lot quieter now but Ii think they're still unrepentent and I'm like how can you guys not see that the mask mandate you railed against has put us in a better position than anywhere else in the world now (*other than New Zealand)?? Our premier got SO much flack and I really admire him for absolutely sticking to his guns.

40 days with no new cases?! Wow! That's so far from how it is in the U.S., as you mentioned. It's so bad here. It's the same way at restaurants here (the restaurants that are open for seating and not just curbside/takeout)...you have to wear your mask until you get to your table, at which point you can take it off.

We have had lots of demonstrations with 20 000 and more partipatitions against the regulations necessary to stop the spread of the virus. In a democracy they had to be allowed. But the demonstration mostly were stopped soon, as they did not keep the rules of distancing and wearing a mask.
