I really liked both Throwing Way Leg and Three Men in a Boat. The latter also inspired a science fiction novel — To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis ( which is what led me to read it).
Another book you might like is In Xanadu by William Dalrymple, who set off to follow part of Marco Polo's journey to China.
