ASUCD Continued
Jan. 15th, 2004 12:31 pm Despite the best intentions and efforts of the Student Services office today, the only result was the definitive conclusion that Student Services does not have the resources and authority to do the task. The only people that have either of those attributes is the SGAO. If Student Services cannot do it, I certainly cannot.
The SGAO maintains that they are too busy with other things. It is mandated by the Judicial Codes that this task must be done and must be done ASAP. If any of their other tasks are mandated by a similarly binding code of laws in a similarly time sensitive manner, then that excuse will have some weight. I leave the readers to speculate on the odds of that on their own.
The SGAO has said that they do not do tasks for unit directors and commission chairs except when they have time. I would like to remind them that the ASUCD Court is NOT a unit or commission, but a branch of government level with the legislative and executive, both of whom could not function except for work SGAO does for them which is similar in importance to the work they must do for the Court.
I will see justice and due process through to completion. Among other things, the Court may formally find persons in Contempt of the Court for refusing to cooperate with the court. If this situation is not resolved by the next time the Court meets, I will motion for the contempt order, regardless of whether the notification is no longer relevant by then or not. It will be sent out.
Hello Kris,
The SGAO does not do personal correspondence for any chairs of any committees. Although we did it last quarter, we had more time available and we do do such work when we have the time. The office is swamped right now with the start of the new quarter, lots of business, and looming elections. We help out when we can, but right now we are at workload capacity.
It should be noted, it is your job as chair of the student court to make copies of any letters and to ensure that the letters are sent out in the manner necessary. You can use the SGAO resources such as computers, stationary, etc. for the construction of such letters, and the ASUCD Student Services office will assist you in the certified mailing of your letters. We had started to make the copies of your
letters, and they are waiting in your mailbox.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. Any questions,
please call the SGAO at 752-3632.
Thank you,

SGAO Staff
Note that the letters are in no way "personal correspondence" of mine, and I am NOT the chair of a committee.
Pursuant to Judicial Code Five, Section 502, paragraph two, notification must be sent to the Plaintiffs and Defendants "by registered mail to the campus address on the party's registration card packet, or, if not delivered at that address, at their home address of record, and by telephone (if available)."
In this case that totals 16 people.
Ick
And, on a side note, I've never had a problem getting SGAO to do any task that I need finished. That definitely makes me wonder if it's not so much a "time" issue but a personal one.
Hmm, I wonder if by writing this in a public space the services I am granted will be cut.
