International Talk Like A Pirate Day
Sep. 19th, 2004 03:02 pm Avast ye miserable underblog-lubbers -- hold fast and prepare to be bloggered! Today is "international talk like a pirate day" so try to spice up your dreary bilge journals, aye?
So yestertoday evening me parents left me in command of the land-ship [house] for about the thirdly time ever. So of course I did what any enterprizing young corsair would do with such an opportunity:
I sat in the hold [my room] and intended to play me some Civ III on the shiney magic box, but a beautiful young lass named Jessiska from
afoxygoddess convinced me to attend a right proper concert with her, complete with orchestra, choir, & even saucy opera singers.
But of course as always this adventure was frought with danger and temptation -- I briefly dropped anchor at diedrichs on my way out to bring on supplies and the dread-pirate cool kyle and crew were downing grog under the dock [bridge]. But I resisted and sailed up the five to meet the saucy lass at Chapman College.
Shortly we tired of these doldrums, and other desires took hold of us if you know what I mean. If you don't, I mean we were feelin up for some pillaging. So we marauded until we came to an italian fast food place (!) and pillaged it for eatings. And man they had some good hard-tack [breadsticks].
Then we went back to Jessiska's quarters and like any modern pirate surely would we heartily watched The Wonder Years and drank tea. Incidently there was also this Canadian yarn called Degrassi that frankly made me wish I could make all associated characters walk the plank (especially the girl without eye-brows and the boy (her ex?) whose eyebrows are huge and probably control him).

Date: 2004-09-19 07:33 pm (UTC)i hear, like, word that you're, you know, taking a class on the history of israel.
you have to check out these books:
* Diary of the Sinai Campaign by Moshe Dayan. Very interesting -- Moshe Dayan was the general who ran the Sinai campaign and this is a day-to-day account of the war. It's amazing how they pulled together such a major operation, only activating reservists 24 hours in advance. More interesting is how he basically says outright that they were using alleged Iraqii mobilisations (which were in fact a complete fabrication) as an excuse for territorial acquisitions... or something to that effect. hmmm. Anyway, quite intersting, and exciting too.
* For the Future of Israel by Shimon Perez. I have a copy of this.. it's bright blue and a rather small hardback book. I loaned it to mummum, so it's probably still in camarillo.
* From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman is a good read as well, lots of background. The rule of thumb about Thomas Friedman is that he is a moron except for when it comes to the middle east. There's a copy of this book on my desk at home (mission viejo), I think.
* Read Ha'Aretz Daily for well-written news and editorials with a bent towards the left. Read the Jerusalem Post for some right-wing tripe.
Also, on the nuclear weapons front, I think you'll find the story of Dimona etc etc quite interesting.

Date: 2008-09-21 03:51 pm (UTC)People have a glamourous image of "piracy," so calling unauthorized music copying "piracy" does very little to give people ethical qualms about it I think.
But like I said, I am all about the unauthorized copying of music. (=
