aggienaut: (snail piracy)

Avast ye miserable underblog-lubbers -- hold fast and prepare to be bloggered! Today is "international talk like a pirate day" so try to spice up your dreary bilge journals, aye?

So yestertoday evening me parents left me in command of the land-ship [house] for about the thirdly time ever. So of course I did what any enterprizing young corsair would do with such an opportunity:
I sat in the hold [my room] and intended to play me some Civ III on the shiney magic box, but a beautiful young lass named Jessiska from [livejournal.com profile] afoxygoddess convinced me to attend a right proper concert with her, complete with orchestra, choir, & even saucy opera singers.
But of course as always this adventure was frought with danger and temptation -- I briefly dropped anchor at diedrichs on my way out to bring on supplies and the dread-pirate cool kyle and crew were downing grog under the dock [bridge]. But I resisted and sailed up the five to meet the saucy lass at Chapman College.
Shortly we tired of these doldrums, and other desires took hold of us if you know what I mean. If you don't, I mean we were feelin up for some pillaging. So we marauded until we came to an italian fast food place (!) and pillaged it for eatings. And man they had some good hard-tack [breadsticks].
Then we went back to Jessiska's quarters and like any modern pirate surely would we heartily watched The Wonder Years and drank tea. Incidently there was also this Canadian yarn called Degrassi that frankly made me wish I could make all associated characters walk the plank (especially the girl without eye-brows and the boy (her ex?) whose eyebrows are huge and probably control him).

dude,

i hear, like, word that you're, you know, taking a class on the history of israel.

you have to check out these books:

* Diary of the Sinai Campaign by Moshe Dayan. Very interesting -- Moshe Dayan was the general who ran the Sinai campaign and this is a day-to-day account of the war. It's amazing how they pulled together such a major operation, only activating reservists 24 hours in advance. More interesting is how he basically says outright that they were using alleged Iraqii mobilisations (which were in fact a complete fabrication) as an excuse for territorial acquisitions... or something to that effect. hmmm. Anyway, quite intersting, and exciting too.

* For the Future of Israel by Shimon Perez. I have a copy of this.. it's bright blue and a rather small hardback book. I loaned it to mummum, so it's probably still in camarillo.

* From Beirut to Jerusalem by Thomas Friedman is a good read as well, lots of background. The rule of thumb about Thomas Friedman is that he is a moron except for when it comes to the middle east. There's a copy of this book on my desk at home (mission viejo), I think.

* Read Ha'Aretz Daily for well-written news and editorials with a bent towards the left. Read the Jerusalem Post for some right-wing tripe.

Also, on the nuclear weapons front, I think you'll find the story of Dimona etc etc quite interesting.

I've always thought it a bit odd that they call "music piracy" music piracy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE music piracy, BUT.. from the standpoint of the barons who control the music industry and want to discourage it, why call it piracy? Piracy is.. seizing things by force and making them your own, possibly while sending its former owners to a watery grave. Simply taking something is theft. Taking something in a manner that doesn't even deprive the original owner of it is... barely theft? But they call it piracy?

People have a glamourous image of "piracy," so calling unauthorized music copying "piracy" does very little to give people ethical qualms about it I think.

But like I said, I am all about the unauthorized copying of music. (=

Share the music, man. I'm right there with you!

I hadn't thought of music piracy like that. I kind of like it. We don't send people to watery graves often enough these days.

Haha nice "watery grave" themed icon. Some of those record execs sure could use a watery grave ... or actually even funnier would be just to shanghai them and watch their pampered asses swab the decks all day and hoist the anchors and receive the ole cat o nine tails if they complain! ;)

I believe I could be down with that as well. Of course, the music barons are usually fat and unappealing. I might need the artists themselves. Or at least the ones who don't support sharing the music, man.

Also I've determined you're suitably awesome and added you to the higher security friends filter of [livejournal.com profile] emo_snal. So if you happen to be going back through it (because you're bored out of your mind or something? haha) there'll be a few more entries you can see. I think there were two during the roadtrip that should now appear.

This delightful conversation has inspired me to start throwing out pirate stuff at Oceangram.com. I just found that place and it's sometimes amusing.

Neat. On a similar note, yesterday someone on LJ Idol had posted their phone number and invited anyone to text them so I texted them "SUDDEN WORD ASSOCIATION LIGHTNING ROUND!! "streudel", go!" and we went back and forth for like an hour and then they said they had to go to bed. But it was funny because they never asked / I never said who I was so they were just playing word association with an anonymous phone number!

That's so cool! I may have to try that some day. I'm normally leery about giving personal info out on my blog. (Had some bad characters surface, not paranoia. I hope.) I will *finally* be joining the ranks of those with telephones this coming week, so I've been giving thought to it. You sway me in the direction of it-could-be-fun.

I have a cell phone, but I live so far out in the boonies that I get no service at my house. Next time I actually have minutes and am out for the day, I might try texting fun.

Yeah I don't think I'd actually put my phone number out in public space. As it is I have some hooligan from the Davis College Republicans who STILL hasn't tired of pranking my phone every now and then and this has been going on over the course of like three years now.

But "suddent word association lightning round!!!" is a game I love to spring on my friends when I'm bored.

I haven't had fun like that in a while, although a couple good friends and I used to love leaving different (often unrelated) messages as subject lines. I used Rumi lines a lot there for a while.
