Movie Reviews
Kristy has a new set of roommates, and that means, they have a new library of movies. Two in particular I had thoughts on that I thought I'd share:
1. Butterfly Effect - At first I was extremely skeptical because they really really seemed to be overdoing the tommy-being-a-bully thing, but once they got out of that stage of the movie I really rather liked it. I was still pondering the movie for much of the next day. I'd discuss some interesting theories I've come to but they're potential spoilers.. but I'd be interested in discussing it in comments if anyone wnants.
2. O - So we really wanted to see a movie and it was the last move on the shelf that wasn't a "chick-flick." You know, I think if they didn't change anything except the music it would improve the movie two or three times over. Also if Hugo didn't look like he was sulking the whole time it would improve it 5 to 8 times over. I dunno it just seems to me its much more interesting when someone who is plotting to backstab all his friends is smiling the whole time, because when he's sulking like a repressed psychopath the whole time it all seems kind of expected.

Multimedia of the Day - Tristan and His Get-fiddle (video clips)
1. Flogging Molly - Worst Day Since Yesterday -- I wanted to get all of at least one song performed by Tristan and so I got most of this one. Also you'll see Shalane eat a rice-crispie treat and Jobee singing along under her breath. (25.7 MB)
2. Bad Religion - Infected - earlier I chronically underestimated the camera's memory and as such tended to take much shorter video clips than I otherwise would have. Anyway this is a clip of Tristan performing the aforementioned song. (4,233 KB)
3. She's Not Diana - Tristan performs his hit single "She's not Diana" (apparently people regularly mistake Shalane for Diana). (3,377 KB)
4. Tristan Acts Retarded and Caffiene Crazed - Tristan acts retarted and Cheri pretends she doesn't think its funny. (5,769 KB)

I'm currently taking Swedish 1, and I strongly recommend it to anyone else here at UCD still looking for a class - Swedish has almost NO conjugation! Its the awesome.

I found "Butterfly Effect" nice, but not overly impressive. I'd be glad to discuss it, though.

so what do you make of the fact that there are some seemingly inexplicable events in the first iteration, ie him holding the knife and drawing a picture of himself killing people? Mainly the knife thing perplexes me because it seems to be seemingly the result of his future attempts to change the past. Maybe what we see the first time around ISN'T actually the first iteration?

There were three stillborns before he was born - maybe they similarly went through life and then eventually went back in time and killed themselves at birth?

And he was never meant to be born - presumably that means his father had gone back in time and changed something so that he could be born. Anyway its pretty much established that the "original" reality experienced by the protagonist has already been altered by his father.

Interesting notions. Kind of like Moby Dick's "Call me Ishmael". I guess I should watch the movie again. Maybe theres more to the script than I've noticed the first time around... ;o)

Yeah those were very awesome its true. I wish I'd gotten most of one in video. I think I have part of one, but its hard to hear what he's saying and its only like ten seconds because as I said I was really underestimating the memory on the camera at first.. so I have all these like ten second clips that are kind of useless.

du mar daligt, ja? I really need to figure out how to key the Swedish letters. But I'll be glad to help you catch up -- I'm always eager to talk Swedish since opportunities come so rarely -- I tend to talk to animals in Swedish -- and my brother Tobin because he can speak it but only haltingly and with a terrible danish accent (he hung out in the south of Sweden) so I make fun of him.. then he makes fun of my grammer (since I've never really formally studied it as he did). I have a feeling on Saturday I'm probably going to speak to you in Swedish a lot if I get intoxicated. (=
