"The item" is in unbelievably fantastic condition. Its amazing! And I can't wait to sell it to you!! If you can remember what "the item" is, I'll even sell it to you for only $2,000!! (Due to your positive effect and all.)
[And I of course deleted the item name from the email subject. AND of course, $2,000 is actually twice as much as I originally posted the item for]
I like to send these scammers sarcastic comments because (A) it gives me great enjoyment at work; and (B) the whole reason scamming works is they send out thousands of emails at the click of a button and generally don't have to follow up with anyone but those few that bite. I figure if I slow them down by writing a sarcastic email which they actually glance at, its slowing them down infinitely more than if I hadn't, thus potentially saving some naive old lady or something.
