Unstable Stones
Feb. 6th, 2006 05:06 amHow Celeste Rose Ousted Daniel Stone
Last Tuesday the California Aggie ran an editorial, regarding the Chancellor / Celeste Rose scandal. On Wednesday, Editor-in-Chief Daniel Stone issued a "note to readers" stating basically "I will not recognize ASUCD legislation or judicial opinions" (in response to the ASUCD Supreme Court case against him). On Thursday the Aggie ran a "note to readers" advising that Stone had secretly edited the previous Tuesday's editorial (ostensibly the unanimous opinion of the Aggie editors) once the other editors had gone home for the day to more reflect his personal opinion and suck up to the Chancellor in hopes of guaranteeing himself an eventual letter of recommendation from him. On Friday the Aggie ran a story regarding a bet about the superbowl outcome, assuring us that the bet would remain secure in a place safe from tampering -- in Daniel Stone's personal possession.
Today (Sunday) Daniel Stone officially announced his resignation. This will be mentioned tomorrow in the last (hopefully) of this unusual flurry of "notes to readers."
If one follows the cause and effect here, it can be said that last week's petition for the resignation of the chancellor directly resulted in the resignation of Aggie editor-in-chief Daniel Stone. I bet the petition creators didn't see that coming.
Daniel Stone's successor also inherets his status as defense on behalf of the Aggie in Case # 29. Hearing is scheduled for this Tuesday. Three justices have already expressed interest in tabling this case until after Case # 30 in order to give the new Defense time to get his/her bearings. This isn't official yet.
Saturday Night Activities
On Saturday night Kritsy and I went over to
colleeniebeenie's house off I Street, where a large number of people were drinking in preparation for a long night of intense drinking. Eventually most of the attendees set off to walk to the bars on G Street (only a short distance away). Kristy, Sashie, and I walked across downtown (also a pretty short walk) to
saprophyte's place off B street. There we partied with such luminaries as
tingsquared, Arlen Abraham, and many others. ASUCD Senators Rob Roy and Kristen Birdsall showed up, and in fact I had a lengthy drunken conversation with Sen Birdsall.
All in all it was quite fun. Then Kristy and I went home and finished watching The Island.
Now, I really like how The Island starts out, and I think its premise has a lot of potential, however it was fairly ruined by being directed by a guy who specializes in dumb action movies.
Also, my suspension of disbelief was unfortunately shattered early on by a patient waking up seconds before he was to be opened up for surgery. Don't worry, this wasn't even important enough to spoil the plot if you plan on seeing it -- and thats just it; the point of this particular scene could have been easily gotten at without implying that anasthesiology has degenerated in the future or whatever. Lame.

Previously on Emosnail
One Year And One Week Ago Last Thursday: Picturing Roommates - Pictures of two of my roommate for the first time. And maybe I talk shit on someone who eventually would be on the ASUCD Court, maybe. O=
A Year Ago and One Week Ago Last Saturday: Signs of the Times - Senate debates spending $80 on vinyl signs to promote themselves. Someone reveals that they found similar signs forgotten under the debris in the Senate office. Also Senate passes the bill to place the Judicial Reform Act, a constitutional amendment, on the Winter 2005 ballot. This would give the Court appellate jurisdiction over elections. It would go on to be approved in the election. This would lead to a discussion as to whether or not it immediately gave us jurisdiction over that very election. Justice Raff would point out that of course it does because the ASUCD Constitution doesn't say things aren't retroactive, and I would roll my eyes and say that no one is ever going to expect anything to be retroactive in ASUCD.
A Year And A Week Ago Tomorrow: Partying in Sepiatone - Hella pictures. From the "Pop Icon" party at Phil/Amie's, among other things.
Year Ago Last Wednesday: The Dirt on SS - Gallagher Wants It Back - Daviswiki / Emosnail special operatives conduct a daring espionage mission to learn the secrets of local SS secret society. Also, Aggie columnist Ian Watson thinks I need to travel more, since his two weeks in China clearly outweighs the months a spent in multiple countries, and gave him a superior perspective on say, not plagiarizing. Like I said, he would later be forced commit Aggie-Columnist-Sebukki and resign in shame.
Year Ago Last Thursday: Emosnail the Series - Emosnail the model for ASUCD themed reality TV.
