Survived!

I am done, I have survived! My power is still out so I'm huddled in the cold and dark, but somehow I'm survived. A friend didn't recognize me in the library the other day, she explained it with "oh, you look like a grad student now!" d=

(1) THIS is the most brilliant research you will come across. No excuses, you will follow that link asap.

(2) Beetlebeat brought an interesting news item to my attention. UC Berkeley police cited a protestor who had been sitting in a tree to protest its planned removal -- for leaving the tree! "Earlier today, RunningWolf repeatedly 'kept coming up and down and in and out of the tree,' [UCPD Sgt. Lou Milani] said. The officers told him that he was subject to arrest, saying, 'If your cause is important, you need to stay up there,' Milani said."
This reminds me of the time a few years ago some guy in Davis went on a hunger strike to demand the name of Sutter Place --the street that essentially is only the driveway into the Sutter Hospital-- be changed. It shortly made front-page news that he had been seen eating. He even came to an ASUCD Senate meeting to explain himself, giving us such brilliant insights into human biology as "if I hadn't eaten I would have died!" What he failed to understand is that the point of a hunger strike is that one's opponents should be deeply impressed with your willingness to put your life on the line, and feel a sense of urgency and responsibility in that if they do not capitulate you will die -- if they know you're just gonna make a fuss and slink off to munch on something its completely pointless.

(3) Slander the Salamander - An absolutely brilliant Encyclopedia Dramatica entry!

   Party on Saturday!

If someone has room in their refridgerator, I need to evacuate mine so that everything doesn't go bad before we get power again on Monday )=

There's a computer lab for the whole apartment complex. Its got two shoddy computers, I bring my laptop down there and use the wireless internet connection in there. They also have this thing called electricity which I don't have, its pretty neat. d=

I'm not in Jakarta anymore. I'm in Leiden, the Netherlands. I didn't update my LJ from March 2k4-June 2k5 and during that time I finished law school and now I'm doing an LL.M. here. I was in Belgium 2 days ago and I'm going to Geneva soon. Still in Orange County?

Still in Davis, which is next to Sacramento in Northern California (which is actually about the middle, since the actual northern half is usually discounted) -- at least for another day or two.

Then its OC where I'll base myself while I look for a job or internship to work on for a year or two before law school.

Know of any good job or internship opportunities around you?

are you kidding? you can get really good internships here. ICC and a whole load of internatioanl organizations in Den Haag. not that i got any of them. I know a girl in my class who works for the ICTY. and my close friend got an internship in the CICC.

Awesome! I'll definitely be looking into those organizations. What is the CICC? If you happen to have any of the relevant webpages offhand or anything else that could facilitate my internship search I would super appreciate it. (=

http://www.iccnow.org/ <--they offer internships. i dunno about you. but they contacted my university and asked the LL.M. if they'd like to do it. There's this guy in my class (who isn't really in the LL.M. programme, he's an exchange student from Georgetown Law and he's got an internship in the ICJ or something).

how about this: http://www.icj.org/article.php3?id_article=2741&id_rubrique=36

give it a try.

As a result of overdosing on POL106, I feel an urge to write a three page critique of that paper.
