Other Previously Unreported Happenings From Davis
Monday Morning, if I recall correctly, I had lunch/breakfast with revchad and
lysandra at Crepeville. In my capacity as a reverend, I officially blessed their marriage, something we'd been meaning to do. To do so I blessed a nearby bottle of ketchup and invoked its 57 varieties of such sauce as a blessing.
Tuesday I hate a late lunch / supper with Miss Rosejean Weller at Woodstocks Pizza. That evening she & I and Shemek and his girlfriend Dasha hung out ... and went back to Woodstocks.
They called it an early night, however, shortly after midnight, because Shemek had to catch a plane to Poland the next day. As such, I caught up with Gabi and Cate out in South Davis and hung out with them for awhile.
Today
Today (back in OC), I worked. We had bees in The Aquarium of the Pacific, which was pretty cool.
As we were leaving the parking lot behind the Aquarium, we noted that a couple was extremely obviously having sex in the front passenger side of a small car. Rude.

If I am indeed going on this Epic Roadtrip from the 18th through the 29th, that leaves me only four days remaining days of regular 30 in 30 blogging. This puts me in the unusual position of having many MORE ideas I want to blog about than I have time for!!! (And here I'm filling up slots with crap like THIS!) (=
Also, fear not, for while I am gyrovaging about I will be able to complete the noble 30 in 30 quest through the miracles of phone posts.
epic roadtrip
Date: 2007-06-17 10:15 pm (UTC)Internet access is actually easy to get while on roadtrips. Just drive into a residential neighborhood and turn on your computer--chances are like 80% that there will be an open wireless network right there. If not, you have to conduct this slightly shady-looking operation of driving around with your laptop watching the signal strengths until you find a good one.
Where are you staying? In your RV in the company of Several Delicious Nubile Babes (DNB's)? Sleeping on park benches? In the absense of an RV filled with DNB's, I highly recommend Couchsurfing (the web site).
Do you have a planned route? The best thing to do in order to see interesting stuff is to avoid interstate highways where possible. You can't go nearly as far, but it's usually a lot more interesting. Or just be sure to get off the interstate whenever you get the bug to go see something "authentic." The only thing you see from the interstates are clusters of the usual freewayside chains... chain fast food, chain motels, etc. The major cross-country routes (I-10, I-40, etc) are particularly bad in this respect.

Date: 2007-06-18 04:10 am (UTC)As to nubile young ladies, well I am travelling with four girls. I'll check out the couchsurfing webpage.
I kind of assumed it wouldn't be practical to bring my computer. Though it might go far to dissuade the boredom ... how hard is it to get something to recharge it from the car?

Date: 2007-06-18 04:39 am (UTC)Truck stops these days have WiFi, too, but you have to pay for it. If you're going to be traveling the major interestates, get a one-month subscription to a particular brand of truck stop internet... Or you can just do the "drive around in residential neighborhoods trick."
Having a computer on the road is nearly essential. Use it to find awesome and bizzare people to stay with via couchsurfing. Find people who need rides from one city to the next on craiglist, and they'll subsidize your gas. Use wikipedia to look up escoterica about the place you're visiting (it would be very awesome to have some kind of internet that worked in the car, so that you could know about things as you drove by them, but cellphone internet right now is slow and extremely expensive).
