Epic Roadtrip: Day 1
Jun. 19th, 2007 01:03 amWe're in exotic Twentynine Palms, California! Nothing terribly exciting to report. I think tomorrow we're just going to drive through the night, so we'll be somewhere in New Mexico along this route. Tomorrow we rendezvous with Nicole Farazian & company in Las Vegas, then we're hitting up the Grand Canyon.
Somehow I've already had to replace the batteries on my camera ... and I haven't taken any more pictures since Ii last posted them. I'm hoping I just left it on or something and it doesn't go through two batteries a day.
Here we're staying with a friend of Sherri's who joined the Navy.. and got sent to this godforsaken place far far from the ocean! d=

Date: 2007-06-19 08:12 am (UTC)I don't know much about batteries. The two that died were panasonic batteries that came with it, my other batteries are a bunch of duracells that dad gave me

Date: 2007-06-19 08:19 am (UTC)New Mexico has lots of hot springs. Santa Fe is very pretty, and there is the White Sands {Missile Range/National Monument}. This is where the first atomic bomb was blown up. Physics Nerds and Jodie Foster fans stop at the Very Large Array radiotelescope. In Albuquerque there is the National Atomic Museum, which features a whole bunch of (unloaded) atomic bombs and other paraphernalia.
Seriously, check out Couchsurfing; you'll find lots of nice folks in Santa Fe.

Date: 2007-06-19 08:26 am (UTC)Austin TX is awesome. I particularly recommend the Spider House cafe there.
Then, on I-10 just after the Louisiana border, you pass through (over!) the Atchafalaya swamp. You can take a swamp tour and see alligators and such.
...
For something completely different, you could heard towards Mexico City!!
