We're in exotic Twentynine Palms, California! Nothing terribly exciting to report. I think tomorrow we're just going to drive through the night, so we'll be somewhere in New Mexico along this route. Tomorrow we rendezvous with Nicole Farazian & company in Las Vegas, then we're hitting up the Grand Canyon.

Somehow I've already had to replace the batteries on my camera ... and I haven't taken any more pictures since Ii last posted them. I'm hoping I just left it on or something and it doesn't go through two batteries a day.

Here we're staying with a friend of Sherri's who joined the Navy.. and got sent to this godforsaken place far far from the ocean! d=

Unrelated.

Surely you're using rechargeable batteries? If not, get some NiMH batteries ASAP.

New Mexico is nice.

I've always wanted to visit Cadillac Ranch (on I-40 in Texas, near Amarillo).

Any sites in New Mexico you would recommend seeinig?

I don't know much about batteries. The two that died were panasonic batteries that came with it, my other batteries are a bunch of duracells that dad gave me

You gotta invest in some rechargeable batteries.. that's the "NiMH". I believe they last way longer than alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries, in addition to being rechargeable. You can pick them up at CostCo or BestBuy, I imagine. You'll need a charger, too, of course.

New Mexico has lots of hot springs. Santa Fe is very pretty, and there is the White Sands {Missile Range/National Monument}. This is where the first atomic bomb was blown up. Physics Nerds and Jodie Foster fans stop at the Very Large Array radiotelescope. In Albuquerque there is the National Atomic Museum, which features a whole bunch of (unloaded) atomic bombs and other paraphernalia.

Seriously, check out Couchsurfing; you'll find lots of nice folks in Santa Fe.

You gotta invest in a fucking camera that doesn't run on AA's. Those types of cameras are good for about a picture and a half, and that's in well-lit areas, sans flash.

I suggest heading south through New Mexico, so that you can take I-10 through Texas instead of I-40. I've heard that West Texas is pretty interesting, especially around Abeliene and Marfa.

Austin TX is awesome. I particularly recommend the Spider House cafe there.

Then, on I-10 just after the Louisiana border, you pass through (over!) the Atchafalaya swamp. You can take a swamp tour and see alligators and such.

...

For something completely different, you could heard towards Mexico City!!

It's interesting for about half an hour. Then you're just fucking driving through a painting for another five. It gets old, fast. :(
