Makin Splits
Monday Dave and I went out to Fresno to pick up special pallets (that have hive bottom-boards integrated into them). We've spent the rest of the week making "splits"
To do this we first placed second hive boxes ("supers") on each hive. After giving them a little bit to move in to their new second floors, suddenly we come in and take the second supers off and put them on their own bottomboards (or in this case the bottomboards attached to pallets), transfer two full frames of brood and two of comb (since while they've moved in to the new box, they really haven't had time to stock it yet) from the old lower box, and put a new lid on it. Then we're going to put new queens in the new hives and voila, 100 hives last week, 200 this week!
Anyway I uploaded a bunch of older pictures (like the last few months) of beekeeping related activities. This time mostly equipment and stuff (which is what we spend at least half our time working on!).
