Picnic Day 2009!

   Picnic Day! The biggest annual local holiday in Davis -- I've only missed it once since 2001. A parade, weiner dog races, alll kinds of other events. And a large number of alumni returning, so you see all your old friends. Oh and most of the students and alumni are drunk about all day, that certainly helps.

   I sadly missed the shenanigans in 2007 (as was in charge of a conference. boo). In 2008 I was there trying to keep up the April Fools charade that my friend Nicole and I were dating, despite that I was hanging out with the lovely miss Marla whom I was dating at the time. Hilarity ensues and Nicole gets a lot of phone calls from concerned friends reporting on me. (:

2009
   This year I headed in with my good friend Allen Rae. We got a late start at around 10am -- already friends were texting us drunkenly from downtown.
   Traffic jams headed into town (Allen lives in Sac), and most roads into Davis blocked by police. This is serious business.
   First person we see as we head into town? Kristy Heidenburger headed down G Street near the Co-op. Arrive at our destination, a house party at 8th & G. We're informed that the champagne is already about gone, and they're trying to find a tap for the keg. I head into the co-op to get a nice stout for "breakfast." (:
   Run into Sharon Zimmerman on the return (Allen says it was Amy? (They're identical twins you see)). Nafeh Malik shows up (after getting lost trying to find his way to McGeorge Law School!) and we have a good conversation about that one time he was elected to Senate...
   More people arrive, people generally festivate, we grill up some vittles on the bbq.

   Eventually some of us walk to campus. Run into more people of course, can't nearly remember everyone I saw all day. Elise Kane, James Schwab, Christie Harrington and her boyfriend Henry -- and I still feel bad for how happy she was for Nicole and I last year :[

   Fast forward through a lot of wandering and later I run into Thomas Lloyd downtown and Courtney Caruso, & Amie Jo in the new pizza place. Then Allen & I hung out at G Street Pub a bit before calling it an evening.

   Altogether it was a very fun day of hanging out in Davis like ole times and running into all kinds of former acquantances (again I'm sure I'm forgetting to name a lot of people here).

   Sunday Thomas Gray came over and he and Allen and I poked around town scouting locations to take Allen's engagement photos (! three of my close friends are getting married this year!). Just as I was leaving for the bus to the airport Elise Kane and some others showed up.

   While I'm waiting for my plane I see a familiar face show up but my brain's wheels are spinning trying to place which Davis friend this is. Finally I realize it's my friend Becka from OC, the old Diedrichs scene, nothing at all to do with Davis! Quelle coïncidence!

eh I'll put them up eventually. I've already got enough pictures of people getting wildly drunk though so I'm not in a hurry hahaha. Though the picture of someone holding a bottle of gin upside over their head having just emptied the last of it down their gullet is pretty impressive (:
