So, maybe I'm the only one, but I HATE St Patricks Day.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ireland and everything about it. But St Patricks Day is a day that everyone and their brother attempts to put on the worst attempt at an insultingly bad fake Lucky Charms commercial accent, dye everything green, and celebrate all the most ridiculous stereotypes.

St Patrick wasn't even Irish d=

Indeed!

As I recall, he was Welsh and was captured, and then found religion in Ireland.

Yeah. Without bothering to look it up again I believe he was believed to be Roman-British -- that is a descendant of the Roman upper class in Britain. He is believed to have lived only about a century after Rome left England.

Also the legendary accounts put his age at death at like 174 or something hahahaha. I tried to figure out once when he actually lived but all the historic accounts do give his date of birth and his date of death about 174 years apart.

Well, I'll chalk that up to the calendars that were being used at the time changing every so often.

Yeah thats exactly how I feel. Everyone acts like, as we'd say, "fecking ejets" haha.

Also I get enough comments about my accent on normal days, but on St Patricks day everyone tells me what a good irish accent I'm putting on and it really pisses me off a lot.

Haha yeah I've definitely heard it called "Cinco de Drinko."

In kind of unrelated news I saw an ad trying to portray Budweiser as somehow being in the spirit of St Patricks day. I thought it was pretty hilarious, considering that not only is Budweiser specifically unrelated to Ireland, but even lager in general isn't really Irish.

Eh, I rather associate ale a lot with the isles, and in Ireland specifically stout. Germany doesn't really do ale in fact -- when they do its under a different name I believe (I think --bocks are made the way ales are?)

I took an intro to brewing class a year ago but its starting to get a little fuzzy (=

My least favourite thing I think is people wearing all green including green top-hats.

Its just another monday to me. Its never really had any significance in my life since my family isn't Irish or Catholic. Besides that I don't really like partying on weekdays either because of work, school, or whatever.

I dislike the day because Irish people GET ON MY FUCKING NERVES.

They ALWAYS have to inform you that they are, in fact, Irish. The wear clothing year round that denotes that they are, in fact, Irish. Most have tattoos of clovers or something to denote that they are, in fact, Irish. They blame aggression and drinking problems on the fact that they are, in fact, Irish. Seriously, WHO GIVES A FUCK?

Where is the holiday for people of other descents? Besides, if you weren't born in Ireland, YOU AREN'T IRISH. My family descended from the almost every country in Europe, but I am AMERICAN because I was born in AMERICA. I don't call a black person African, right?

Sorry for the mini rant, people just get on my nerves. Someone will probably take offense to this because they claim to be 'Irish'. Only ones who should be offended are actual Irish people, who probably hate said people as much as I do.

I think it comes from the newness of the country, I mean comparatively, America isn't all that old. People are interested in their heritage and where they came from, and the European countries have always been portrayed romantically in movies/media etc. I for one had some severe shock when I visited the UK and found out it wasn't all rolling fields and long lost relatives called Paddy who owned a charming little pub somewhere. Not to mention, we're given the wrong impression by our own media that the Brits are out homies, and they find us as charming as we do them. Not so. I experienced so much rudeness simply because I was an American, I was shocked by some of the things people said to me.

I think the whole "I'm Irish I'm Irish!" thing is worse in New England, where I live, especially Boston. The Italian Americans do the same thing, comparing who is a more 'wicked Italian', always hinting that they have Mafia ties, again, the romanticism of a culture based on Hollywood.

Haha yeah, I do agree. I have been around the world and realize how our media is solely for ENTERTAINMENT, hence, they do whatever they can to simply grasp people's interests, not portraying the truth in the dull entity that it may be. I have friends in Britain and it comes to no surprise to me as to how people give a shit about other's heritage, and dislike people simply due to mundane facts such as the geographical location as to where you were born, or the location your parents came from.

I think where I am (Tennessee, born in Florida before any assumptions can be made. =P ) people just have very little going on in their lives so that they have to find a smug sense of superiority in the fact that their bloodline is something different. Personally, I think it is shallow to think you are special on a basis of family background as opposed to personal accomplishments.

What is it to be called a 'wicked pissah'

LOL
I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect it may be a demonic mutant crossbreed spawned from the stolen DNA of Joey McIntyre's toothbrush and Ted Kennedy's underpants.

A pure genetic offspring of Ted Kennedy is enough to be considered a demonic mutant, lol.
