Its not even 9am and I'm already tired of people asking me if I've voted. I understand they're probably sending the message out to everyone on their phone but still. I vote in anything even remotely resembling an election. Heck I'm voting TWICE today -- this evening I'm hauling my happy ass 20 miles to vote in the yearly Orange County Beekeepers Association officers election, despite that I almost never go to their meetings and don't much care about who gets elected.

Anyway, if you live in California I encourage you to vote Yes on 1A, Yes on 2, and 11. (You already know how you stand on the Presidential Election and Prop 8 so I'm not going to presume to tell you how to stand on those) Explanations of my endorsements can be found here.

Picture of the Day

Sunrise over beehives

(Moving bees before sunrise is easier since they're less active)
More pictures from the other morning of bee moving

***EDIT 11:35 - Today it was raining, and bees aren't good with rain. So at work we bottled beer all morning. (=

I was not aware that you are a beekeeper. My grandfather Charles Payne was one many years ago in San Diego. Small world, eh?

Hmm not familiar with him, but beekeeping really is a really small world! In Portland I was talking to a beekeeper I ran into in a farmers market and I mentioned we had bought a bunch of bees from one Ed Allen in Redding, and he was like "oh I know Ed!" So yeah, random beekeeper I meet hundreds of miles and two states away and we know someone in common.

Hmmm depending on when he was beekeeping he MIGHT have overlapped with San Diego's famous beekeeper J S Harbison. That would be pretty neat.

Silly. My name is Kris. I work with a guy named Dave, and he ends up in more of my pictures since, well, I'm usually on the other end of the camera. I'm guessing thats why you thought my name was Dave?

If one more person asks me if I voted yet today, I think I am going to throw my free Ben and Jerry's cone at them. ;)

All CA citizens must think about the chickens today. Plus our gay friends, they deserve to be married.

And chickens should be able to get married and gay people should be able to have abortions (there's also an anti-abortion measure on the ballot)! =D

Again, another group of great photos.:)

And I am with you on people asking me if I voted.
1. it's none of their business
2. do they honestly think any normal citizen would miss the PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION THAT COMES ONCE EVERY FOUR FREAKIN YEARS!!!!!!!!
3. end rant.

Voting

Yeah I just think the idea that I wouldn't vote is kind of hysterical. In college I wrote guest opinions in the school paper extolling why everyone should vote in the local and school elections ("how can you complain about national issues when your most local governance, that you can have a most direct effect on, is not in order?"), in the speech class I took for the "persuasive speech" I urged everyone to register to vote. Before I voted in this election I made a special trip to the library in a (vain) attempt to glean something of value about the local candidates. To think there was any chance in hell I wouldn't vote is just.. preposterous.

That said, I'm sure they didn't actually think I specifically wouldn't vote, and rather were just sending a text to everyone on their phone. Still though I was amused and still managed to feel slightly annoyed that I was receiving such a text.

Also on that note though, I consider anyone who in fact did NOT vote to be an ogre. I can't believe these people.

/end longer rant (=
