Possibly the classic example of a totally obnoxious webpage: http://www.cornerbakerycafe.com . Bad colour choice, all kinds of annoying moving elements, and NOISES. About a minute in you hear what I'm assuming is supposed to be coffee being poured, but it sounds like someone taking a piss!! We all started cracking up here.
Seriously though, their website is like a myspace page. d=

Working on the "bee biology" part of our webpage here. Boss reminded me to keep in mind people's attention span. I thought back to all my experience writing blog entries and smiled knowingly. One thing I have experience in is conveying information in about a page of length.

And now I'm off to get a tortilla soup from Corner Bakery, despite their website.

Totally Unrelated Picture of the Day

***Edit 12:53: Firstly, their "large" soup looks like what I'd call a small. But I notice my roll bobbed to the surface whenever I'd try to submerge it, so I think to myself "Hmm, I wonder what the specific gravity of the soup is." This is followed by "wow, I've been doing too much brewing!!"

Ohhhh, I hate web sites that have sound effects, drives my screen reader nuts!

Yeah they're almost ALWAYS unwanted, in my opinion. If I load a page and sounds start playing I almost invariably either hit [back] immediately, hit off on my speakers immediately, or hit stop on the page itself if I see such an option.

Screen Reader

I'm curious what the screen reader sounds like when it goes over punctuation and/or other nonverbal things. You should make a phone post featuring your screen reader (=

Here's a few videos of my screen reader. There are settings for punctuation levels we can change. I have it on most, and there is all, non, some, etc. The screen reader I use is JAWS.

LMAO. And of course the "bee" will turn out to be a hummingbird or something.

I always joke that we should threaten to bring bees upon them if they don't pay. We could very easily do so with pheromones.

Yeah some 2% of the population is, which is actually a pretty high number, but it seems like just about 90% of everyone THINKS they are. Just because it hurt real real bad last time you got stung and it swelled up does NOT mean you're allergic! Thats just what it does!!

Hitting the Beach

ahah that would be so nice, taking the phones from the beach. Caller: "is that.. do I hear seagulls in your office?!"

Once Bob and I had an hour between two calls on Balboa penninsula. In a previous call we had just put an entire beach umbrella in our truck cause it had bees on it. So we went out to the beach with the beach umbrella, set it up, and lounged on the beach for an hour. Definitely a "hey this job ain't so bad!" moment!

The web page is not exactly like a myspace page, in that it did not actually crash my browser when i went to it.

Other than that, yes, it is a great example of too-busy web over-design.

Yeah and unlike a typical myspace page it didn't start trying to play avril lavigne as soon as I loaded it, but otherwise..
