Most recent LJ Idol poll is up. With 28 people remaining, its easy to read them all. I encourage doing so. And voting! (=

[Poll #1348977]

I stared deep into the dark coils of lj, to understand its arcane inner magic, and lo, I was rewarded with gnostic secrets. Anyone can post any poll. I'm not a hacker, there is no secret. I simply questioned what I couldn't do and was rewarded.
And I found this pleasing -- that specifically the kind of behaviour I thought most commendable (questioning your surroundings) yielded a reward of some usefulness. Personally I think the advantage gained by being able to post the poll in your entry was more deserved to those who found it and more proportional to the merits of earning it than nearly all the random "rewards" and "Special powers" that have been purposefully bandied about in this competition. In short, it made me feel like at least something was right in the world.
However, all good things must come to an end. All too often good technology is eventually twisted, and this has happened.
Gary became concerned and asked how it is done, and the knowledge was passed on to him. I hoped he would have the good sense to keep it under wraps, or at least would tell everyone about it all at once. Unfortunately however, he simply told two idolists, [livejournal.com profile] spydielives and [livejournal.com profile] kittenboo.
It is no longer a slight advantage to those who have thought to question and investigate their surroundings on their own, it is now an advantage to those who asked Gary how to get advantages. That literally makes me feel sick, and I'll feel filthy until I rectify it.
From here I'm quite clear that it will continue to spread, and until someone posts about it publicly the people who have gained the knowledge by asking others will do it under the table. Already today I'm seeing strange vote spikes NOT accompanied by a visible entry, that ARE accompanied by "last post: four hours ago," a spot I can't see an entry anywhere near.

And so, I am levelling the playing field. I am telling each and every one of you that yes, you can post the poll. The method is shockingly, mind-blowingly simple, all you have to do is try. That or ask Gary.

PS: I thought I'd brighten your days with a visual representation of the poll standings. Please stand by, hopefully I'll have some charts converted to a postable size and form within an hour or two.

Haha wow how sheisty am I? You think other people are involved? And I know? And I'm trying to keep it a secret?

While we're on the subject, since I'm sure people are going to assume she's involved in whatever I'm involved in, Gratefuladdict has NOT posted the poll and is actually refusing to even post a link.

I wasn't even going there, I was thinking more along the lines of the person playing telephone.

ETA: Oh, and wasn't this one of [livejournal.com profile] superhappytime's rules for getting ahead in idol? Making a big public fuss with a well-known player or two?

I know I read that somewhere.

Lol I sincerely doubt this will get me any votes.

*laughing* So what I understand, the benefits in the future are:

1) it gets you the votes from the "Anyone but Spydie" crowd, more important as the field dwindles.

2) it gets you NOTICED. If you were fading, it can revive sagging numbers.

a) damnit, I hate having how to track down where my name is being improperly used when I hear about it through word of mouth

b) person playing telephone? what does this mean? I'm curious.

c) when the hell would I make a dumbfuck rule like that? I was put out because a bunch of cliquish estrogen havers decided I was starting drama with Borderline Personality Disorder in Yellow last season. Drama that was one sided and completely in her head. the way to get ahead is to play the victim and constantly accuse everyone else of trying to fuck you over and getting by on their friend list, even as you turn in crappy James Taylor inspired entries and network like hell in the green room and make vote for me posts with stuff like "I need it so bad...don't you want to make me burn for you?"

d) seriously, I get annoyed when you people decide to attach scandal to my name. it's like an anti-male club.

Aww... next time I will x-link it for you.

I went looking for the original, but I couldn't find it. I will look harder.

Yes, it's usually hard to find stuff that's made up. I think between you, Gary, and Shitting_Fire, I've been accused of over 200 things I haven't done and given a reputation I don't deserve...can probably add KR to that list after this week.

Oh, and Twirly.

Maybe you should search though comments made by Gonads.

no, it was tulipinyellow, and then she deleted her journal and all her Idol friends and changed to spitting fire, or something along those lines. I was just being mean about it because she spread rumors about me...I guess I have to go spread some about Spydie now to get back at her comments about me above.

Hey, did you know that Gary actually told Spydie how to embed the poll, and she did it this week without telling anyone. And, in fact, she is the one who invented it when she used to a be a programmer for LJ 5 years ago?

I am Switzerland?

I did hear about the tulipinyellow drama from last year, a bit of it anyway. But I only read and voted last year and didn't look at the green rooms at all, so I don't really know the whole deal.

2. Someone else has agreed it was you *grin*

3. Don't worry, it will give you lines.

You know, it's always interesting following a conversation in which there is obvious subtext but where you have no idea what the subtext is.

Very sociological. I like sociology.

Oh, I don't know that there is any subtext.

I do think it's funny that sometimes like to paint it like I've been stirring up people for years...or at least since I started Idol...though any of them would be hard pressed to find even a single comment from me in the Green Room until after I was in the top 20 last season. Other then to sometimes defend Gary when people were acting like someone had put a gun to their head and forced them to play and now he owed them a pillow to cry on and a foot massage every time they didn't like something that happened.

also, if I were going to suggest starting something with a well known player, I think I would suggest two people who have actually been consistently finishing in the top 5 or so.

now I'm wondering if you purposely started up with Kassi a few weeks ago as part of a strategy.

It's old news. A few weeks ago, some shitz went down. Bottom line: Me and Spydie survived a misunderstanding and my husband decided to call her a bitch because he thought it was funny - which it definitely wasn't at the time. I think that any of the shitz that remains (that is still public) is in his lj. :)

Holy histrionics! I miss all the good shit when I wander into the great outdoors.

I appreciate the endorsement, but have two caveats...

1) I haven't refused to post a link this time. I tend to wait and see if I feel nervous, and then post sometimes.

2) If the poll embedding catches on, I'll likely start doing it too, lest refusing to do so put me at a disadvantage.
