Hello all from Santa Rosa ([livejournal.com profile] gratefuladdict's place). Anyway, its LJ Idol polling time. As usual I recommend reading and voting. Additionally, since I'm out travelling I unfortunately might not be able to read them all, so please recommend to me the good ones! :D

[Poll #1352848]

[Poll #1352849]

Posting asking for votes repeatedly. Seriously people. Does this have to become a spamfest? :*

Yes, yes it does. I'll end with posting the poll if I have to. Because there's weeks where it would've been merited but this one's not it.

I was actually pretty much expecting to be out this week but I'm doing pretty decently, so maybe I'll live to fly another week. If all else fails I could bribe my friends list with donations ;D jk

Hahahahahahahaha

I wonder if I'd have to offer or threaten nude pictures to get somewhere ... Hmmm ... I'll have to ponder this.

Haha I think that would definitely be effective.

Who has publicly asked for votes repeatedly?

My personal feeling is asking for votes once is a bit desperate and dirty play. Multiple times is definitely lame.

Lamest of all, going out, after asking for votes once or multiple times, and then bitching and blaming it on conspiracy or people grouping together or friend list size.

Seriously, nobody has gone out in a place they didn't really belong to go out based on their writing. Amazing that so many unpublished people posting shit for free on the internet all think they are James Fucking Frey.

Haha I ain't naming names. If there's one thing I learned its that name dropping will start WWIII. So no more name dropping for me. Plus [livejournal.com profile] xo_kizzy_xo already thinks I'm the drama king as it is (damn the relevant comment has been screened).

Also, I think any posting of a link or the poll to one's friends list is tantamount to asking for votes, since its pretty much assumed your f-list is going to vote for you, but at the very least I try not to ask for votes based on because "I want to stay in!" and rather just encourage my f-list to read and vote for any they deem appropriate. It helps me keep some semblance of self respect.

And this is exactly why you aren't a real drama king and you need to show these people up. By naming names. In the GR, no less. You need to do something that will have them talking about emo_snal and acting all bitter a year from now.

C'mon...asking for votes, linking to the poll, posting to the poll...it's all the same and basically leads to the requester getting a handful of people to drop in, read nothing, and vote.

And yet, some people do this and feel proud about it afterward when they do well. And bitch about other people doing the exact same thing. After all, their own vote request is only to help balance out all the evil and unfairness in the world.

I asked for votes in two entries. But I've done this every time since being in idol. The first post was made within 30 minutes of the poll g8oing up. The second time was this morning. Like every other week, I took down the first post I had made when I put in a more discrete re-direct this morning.

I do it simply because if I don't inform my friends list, they bug me about it - especially my siblings and IRL friends who don't blog so much.

as far as people posting multiple times asking for votes, it has happened every single week this season and last season of the people on my flist. I just glide by it because I've already voted at this point and someone asking me to vote for them won't influence my decision.

Well, now I know that you are person number one to be called out in the green room!

but who else? who else is begging for votes multiple times? is it just a tactic by emo to pretend that it's not him and he didn't do it in a filtered post last night?

Possibly. Is it really because of the migratory patters of wild cattle? Or perhaps the diet of 13 American kids living in the slums of New York. Anyone who knows anything about statistics and number analysis can easily chart its progression, much like the progression of a hand to a forehead in exasperation (doing this in slow motion would get points for the Andy Warhol fans) or the ceremonial rights of the Aboriginals.

It basically comes down to this: It's impossible to know who is "begging" for votes multiple times because most of them (from what I can tell) are doing it in public.

Wild Cattle

As to the migratory patterns of wild cattle, I can tell you two things: (1) they will not go up or down a slope of more than 8% grade; (2) whenever tehy are grazing in a field they will all be facing the same direction in case they need to run. Additionally most modern cattle are bred derived from a species called the auroch, which went extinct I believe in the first millenia AD (there may have been a very small handful left up until the rennaissance)

I started posting the link for that reason too, my RL friends ask, and I have some LJ friends who mentioned they would like to vote but never remember when the poll goes up.

When I was still in I would post a link to the poll once in a weekend and then leave it be. Once or twice I was tempted to post a second time with a 'pretty please' but that seemed silly, the people who were going to vote did, and if they weren't there wasn't any point in spamming the rest of my flist.

Also you asked for recommendations, I really liked [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp's. I haven't started reading the top group yet.

Read the entries by RM, SuperHappyTime, and Oberonia.

If you want to know why, read my recommendation post. That is why I write it.
