Back at Bee Busters. I had missed the bees. A surprising amount has changed in the two weeks I was gone. There's a new office assistant, and a new assistant beekeeper. And..

Co-worker Jeremy, with a huge grin on his face told me about his week off, and how he and his girlfriend had gone up to Napa. They did the "wine train" and all that, and then took a hot air balloon ride. And while doing so, he proposed to her. (she said yes).
He's not sure on a date yet but he says within a year ("we've had a long enough 'engagement'!" -- they've been dating years and years), but already this year (2009) my good friend Allen, my ex Garian, and my good friend / former roommate Ben are getting married. Tis the year of marriages! O:

Spain!
So Kerri and I are presently working on our itinerary for the May 14 - 26 Spain trip. We're arriving in and leaving from Barcelona, and thinking about spending a few days in Zaragosa as well. Additionally thinking of making some day-trips to nearby areas as well. If anyone knows anything about this area and/or has an opinion and/or advice I'd greatly appreciate it! (:

Picture of the Day

It came to my attention in making that other post that I had never picture-of-the-day-ed these other pictures of the bridge.

From Barcelona you should definitely go to Girona and Tarragona. Also Montserrat, though it's a tourist trap. But with good reason. Sitges, about half an hour from Barcelona / Santes station (basically the central station in Barcelona) is a great day trip for a sea-side resort. In Barcelona you should eat what Mark Bitman in the New York Times called the best sandwich in the world -- the Iberian ham sandwich at Cafe Viena, a hole in the wall (and small chain, actually) on La Rambla. First time I ate meat in decades, and it was amazing. I had three there, over the course of several days, and then went back to not eating meat. Good cheap food there, and good cheap tapas at the Ciudad de ComtalYou should definitely tour the FCB stadium, or even take in a game if you can. And of course the Parc Guell, all the Gaudi stuff, the music hall which was being renovated but is now reopened, the Miro museum and the Picasso museum. /envy

Thanks for all your suggestions!! I'll definitely look up the one's you suggested which I'm not yet familiar with. Was already planning on going to Girona, and thinking about going to Montserrat. And I think I read the NY Times article you're referring to! (and the sandwich does indeed sound good!). (:

Does the bridge remind anyone else of the tower atop Olympic Stadium in Montreal?

I need a Euro adventure. When my parents were in Spain last Spring, they greatly enjoyed playing with cliffside monkeys. Yeah, I dunno. I'm sure they experienced lots of cultural wonders, but they mostly had lots of photos of monkeys.

Hmmm looks like Santiago de Compostela is all the way on the other side of Spain. ): Maybe next time? (:

We were thinking about going to Valencia as well but decided to cut it down to three cities and lots of day trips instead. We're there for 13 days, including arrival and departure day.

What's in Santiago de Compostela?

How different is Spanish Spanish from Mexican Spanish? Did they sound funny to you? (:

yeah, it's far, we were there for a long time and stayed a few days in each city.. Santiago de Compostela has a beautiful cathedral (have you read Paulo Coehlo's the Pilgrimage?) and a nice beach too

their spanish and ours is quite different, but i have to say that i understood it better than i understand some of the spanish from central america and puerto rico

I think it's always interesting when languages are closely related but not the same. Swedish and Norwegian I think are barely seperate languages -- they do have different words for some things but they're totally mutually understandable (Norwegian just sounds like Swedish with a silly accent to me). And I know Portoguese in Brazil and Portugal is rather different.
