I wrote this entire entry and then when I was literally seconds from posting it my browser crashed (and for some reason doesn't autosave). I absolutely loathe writing the same entry twice so I'm just gonna try to pound this thing out now. ): On the bright side it finally motivated me to upgrade to Firefox 3.0 (had been using 1.0, which I'm told is stone age by now)

LJ Shootout
So I got a lot of positive feedback about my idea for an LJ Idol style event dedicated to photography. I'm thinking of launching it in the second or third week of July (got to recover from June's 30 in 30 first!)
[Previously there were several paragraphs of discussion of the concept here but I really don't feel like writing it again]. For a name I'm thinking "LJ Shootout", but other ideas are welcome.
[blah blah blah I miss what I wrote here the first time but really don't feel like rewriting it. Yes I'm still bitter.]

Picture of the Day

I've used this picture before, but yesterday everyone was talking about how cute bumblebees are so I thought I'd use it again.

Best Picture Evar?
For the final project for the photo class we need to get a picture printed out 8x10 or bigger. It appears we can use any picture we've taken. So which to use?
If there were any pictures I posted here you particularly liked / would think would be a good one to have printed, please advise!
Or you could be an overachiever and review my set of what I feel are my best pictures on flickr and choose from there. (: [and it was in getting that last link that my browser crashed last time, that's how close to done with the entry I was!! ): ]

when I was a tolddler, I used to pick bumble bees up and put them in my pocket. Its amazing that I was only stung once out of how many times I did that.

Do you ever use semagic? I tell people to use it all the time, but I don't know if they listen. But it's great for multiple reason, including that it autosaves your drafts. Plus you can find and edit/change all your old posts, friend lists, etc using it...

Yeah I have semagic. Used to use it. Stopped I think because the preview feature wasn't working properly. To preview my entry it would show it in this column that was just like two or three inches wide. Weird. But I should get back to using it, because losing entries suuucks d:

I love you and your fluffy kittens with wings. (As a kid, used to call bumble bees, well, you get it.)

I thought I'd share a photo of one of your friends hanging out with one of my sunflowers.

Sunflowers!

Because sunflowers are native to North America (I believe), native bees (as opposed to honey bees, non of which are native to the Americas) like to pollinate them. As such, some people started the Great Sunflower Project, wherein anyone with sunflowers volunteers to watch their sunflower for ten minutes a day and keep a log of what sort of bees visit their sunflower. I had encountered an article somewhere that described it better than the about on their page itself, but I don't know where that got to.

That's really interesting! We grow tomatoes and chili peppers, and a variety of herbs (rosemary, lavender, mint, marjoram, oregano, thyme, chives) in addition to the sunflowers so we have a fair number of bees.

Nice. Someday I hope to have a nice garden full of fun things like that. (:

We're in Texas, and so backyards are pretty common here. Sophie the German Shepherd loves having a space where she can run around an play with the butterflies. We don't use pesticides or herbicides and we only use natural fertilizers. I love it when the ladybugs come in; I've tried buying ladybugs and mantids, but they always escape.
