I thought I'd post some my very favourite of my monochrome pictures. These are all from ancient times (1999 & 2001), and the image quality isn't the best since they were originally scanned from prints, uploaded to yahoo photos (which actually wouldn't give me back anything but a very small version until they finally closed down a year or two ago) downloaded again, etc. So I think in all those transfers they suffered a bit.

Anyway:

This one I took for my photo class in high school, I think I got a D on it. Notwithstanding Mr Williams' lack of enthusiasm for it, it's one of my very favourite of my pictures. It has been the background on my computer ever since I've had a computer.

I love the castle shot. It's a bit fuzzy but that lends to the ambiance. As to the Power Pylon shot, well just 'cause your teacher didn't like it doesn't make it a good picture. Learned that early on in art school. They're looking for something specific frequently and if it's not there, it's a bad work. Doesn't mean it is, just means they didn't see what they were looking for.

Thanks (:

Yeah I didn't beat myself up too much over the teacher not liking it. Art is of course entirely subjective and if one person didn't like it, well that's just one person's opinion. I'm sure he was flipping through 200 student submissions that day and gave it about two seconds to say "doesn't do anything for me, focus not as sharp as it could be, D, next!" but didn't stop to consider what a sweet background it would make :D and of course it wasn't in perfect focus, I saw the plane and had seconds to snap the shot before the plane would be out of position. (:

I really like the last photo of the plane and the power pylon. I can see why you love that photo so much--it has a timeless quality (you take a lot of those types of shots, by the way). It could have been circa 1942.
And who knows, or who cares, why your Mr. Williams wasn't crazy about it. Art is so subjective, I really hate to see anything judged, unless you're talking technique.

Yeah like I noted in a comment above, I'm not beating myself up over not striking his fancy. (:

Thanks! (:
