Portrait-o-Rama (Cutting Room Submissions VII)

   ljshootout topic this week has been portraits. Even though I don't really like taking portraits, I've built up a few over the years I rather like. The following are, as we say, my cutting room submissions for portrait -- the ones that I can't use because they're out of the time frame.


Kristy, whom I dated for some 58% of the last six years, looking sassy.



My friend Gabi (guabili). I rather like the lighting.



My friend Roxie. Damn I wish I'd used a narrower focus to obscurate the background more.



Roadtrip companion Janelle.



My friend Mark ... proof that I DO sometimes hang out with lads! :D



Kristy again. Yes she is the only one who got non-white borders. It was actually a very specific shade of pink I decided was best for her, though I no longer recall the numbers.



Gabi again. She actually seems to be my best model in terms of ratio to hanging out / getting good portrait-ish pictures. (:

Kristy & I. This actually taken on a mechanical (ie nondigital) film camera. I set all the settings and then handed it to el roommate. (Kristy is wearing I believe not this ushanka but my nicer one). Picture also available in sepia



Me looking skeptical after the abovementioned Gabi shaved off the mohawk I'd had for about two years.

I forgot to also mention that it was after we travelled back to the victorian era in my steam powered time machine, messed up history a bit, and were then stranded in the 1940s for a bit having crazy hijinks before we were finally able to make it back here. I suppose I shouldn't feel bad that apparently WWIV never happened now but I think the fact that girl pants on guys are now in fashion is proof that one should never mess with the space-time continuum.

The pictures of Gabi are my favorite. Janelle has sort of an Angelina Jolie vibe workin' there. I like the smugly cool expression on Mark's face and in his body language.

Yeah Gabi is great for photos. I need to hang out with her again sometime to get some more (she's in Davis and I'm down here)

My only regret about the Mark one is that he held the bottle backwards. The front would have been much preferable to the small print on the back. ):

Also yes I love the Janelle on the armchair in the car picture. Her entire posture is just great. I feel way too silly telling people how to pose so things like that I just gotta depend on people coming up with themselves.

Haha yeah I thought about noting under the picture of Mark, really, its not that I never hang out with guys, it's that I find girls much MUCH more attractive, and tend to photograph what's attractive. Really the only reason I have a portrait of Mark is because I was taking a photo class and needed a portrait for it stat. :D

I never noticed you put the beads & the socks as pink in that picture of Kristy; I'd noticed the eyes obviously.

I agree that we are in desperate need of hangouts to bring your Gabi portfolio out of the teenage years. For serious.
