Spent this weekend up in the snow at nearby Big Bear Mountain. Went up with my friend Mark, his frat brothers Jeff & Rob, and two female friends of his/theirs.
Snow was several feet deep. Saturday we frolicked in it and sledded, had snowball fights, made a giant snowman, made tunnels, etc.

One particularly amusing observation in my opinion, was that so the frat types are fond of drawing with pen on the faces of people who drunkenly pass out right? But they've established that you can only do this if someone passes out with their shoes on. If they get their shoes off first they're safe ... unless we can get their shoes back on them! At various points various people did fall asleep on the couches at the cabin while the rest of us were up, but they always managed to get their shoes off, so the game of "get their shoes on them without them noticing" began! (We never succeeded)

I left for them mountains before my lj entry even went up (Whirled still had to finish hers and then she posted them both). So having barely even had a time to proofread my entry before I had to go I was left wondering all weekend what it actually looked like, if I'd forgotten some crucial part, if the voice was perhaps all wrong and I came off like a psychotic bastard or perhaps just rambling about my love life or something. Or for that matter I didn't even know what HER entry ended up looking like!!

Anyway, for your weekly sunday song lyrics, here's the song that was the "current music" to that entry. I rather like it.

Two Gallants - Despite What You've Been Told
I guess by the bloodstain of your lips
And the wander of your fingertips
I should prove true to my emptyness
And stayyyyyy here

Well I'm just a kid of ill repute
But skin wear's my only suit
And you are just a substitute
For the onne that I hold dearr

You know you could be any one
God forgive my tasteless tongue
I never should have been set free

I carve my eyes, I skin my face
And beg somehow to be replaced
That’s how we deal with boys like me

I guess by this world so sick with loss
And your services so free of cost
I should climb down of my rugged cross
And lay with you

You know by now it’s half past late
And I only came here for escape
You, you’re just my next mistake
Like me to youu

You know you could be any one
God forgive your unborn sons
I hope they don’t end up like me

I drag my mind through streets of shame
Blame myself, forgive the game
That’s how we deal with boys like me

But despite what you’ve been told
I once had a soullll
Left somewhere behind
A former friend of mine

And I hate to speak so free
But you mean nothing to me
So if the streetlights they shine bright
I'll be home tonight

I guess by the dim light in your eyes
And that to you all things come as a surprise
I should set the steel trap of your thighs
And dive right in

To you I'm just a confused child
Insecure or in denial
Go raise your robes, go have your trial
I'll let you in

You know I could be any one
God forgive what I should have done
My thoughts enough to kill tv

And yes, I guess I made this bed
But I'll take the sidewalk instead
That’s how we deal with boys like me

But despite what you’ve been told
I once had a soul
Left somewhere behind
A former friend of mine

And I hate to sound so true
But I mean nothing to you
And with the streetlights they shine bright
I'll be home tonight

And in entirely unrelated news, here's a cute story (+ pictures!) about Cheetahs deciding just to play sweetly with a baby antelope

Now that sounds fun, and not unlike a retreat I went on in the mountains when I was in college, except there was no drinking. :)

And I totally stole and reposted your cheetah story, so there! :)

I went on a few similar retreats in college, courtesy of the Associated Students of UC Davis! One winter I even went twice, once on the general student government retreat and once on the entertainment council retreat. (The judicial branch itself just got enough of a team building budget to order pizza once a quarter!) There was definitely plenty of drinking. The budget didn't pay for drinking of course, we had to cover that ourselves, but I really think that was actually the most constructive part of the team building experience.

Yeah, ours was a Christian retreat so booze was not included. But we had as much fun as a bunch of hyperactive college students can be expected to have even without it. :) And yeah, it was very bonding. :)

Rather miraculously, this weekend involved three single lads and two single girls and.... there was no mischief! Everything stayed 100% platonic between all parties, who would have thought it was possible?! :D

If you can remember what happened, you didn't really have that good of a time.

Haha true, it was actually disappointingly lacking in real major drunkeness -- no one puked either!

"Next time we're hungry, he'll trust us."

Look at the evil grin on that one facing towards the camera.

Glad to see that some frolicking went on. Not enough people frolic, in my opinion :D
