Today an airliner operated by the Nigerian airline Dana Air crashed while en route from Abuja to Lagos. The plane hit the "Mountain of Fire" church as well as an apartment building. All 153 persons aboard the aircraft, as well as 30 people on the ground, are presumed dead.

I flew Dana Airlines on that route about a month ago. Dana Airlines operates only 4 aircraft. I don't have a way of figuring out which one I was on but there's obviously a 25% it was the one that crashed. That fact really makes this news kind of hit home for me.

I can see how this would be a really difficult thing to work one's head around.

The plane of course has probavbly flown a hundred flights since I was on it, but still it makes it a lot more real than just reading about a distant plane crash. One or more of the flight attendants or crew members on my flight was probably in the crash...

Will I fly Dana Air again? Probably. But I'll be kind of nervous I think. d:

That's how I felt when the TWA flight to Paris exploded in 1996. I had flown TWA to Rome a month before. It's sobering, to say the least.

I've never felt unsafe while flying, I've always been well aware of the statistical fact that "flying is safer than driving" ... but coming that close to being blown up makes it feel a little different d:

scary business, sweetie. All I can think to do is feel terribly sad for them and very relieved for you that you weren't on that flight.
