April 3rd - 4,737 active cases in Australia, 217 new cases in the last 24 hours. I didn't make an entry yesterday, it looks like there were 4704 active cases yesterday (though I don't know how close to 24 hours ago that number is from), meaning the net increase was only 33! And that number of new cases is the lowest it's been in a long time too! Hopefully this is the beginning of leveling off!

Yesterday a friend on an island in the Philippines said 17 of the 50 doctors on her island had died already. I hope that's just a wild island rumor, that can't be right. Still freaks me out.

This morning I came across this story of bodies piling up in Ecuador. Earlier on instagram I had seen a video purporting to be in a hospital in Ecuador, showing the hospital closet full of bodies. Officially only 120 people have died of coronavirus in Ecuador but I think that can't be right. It sounds like it may be as bad there as NYC/Spain/Italy, but they aren't reporting numbers and no one has noticed. I'm terrified that that's a preview of what Venezuela will be like.

All week my throat has been tense and sore, the way one's throat feels after they've been crying, I think it's from stress/sadness over everything.

And here's a cool relief I saw in Sweden in 2014 which I think is about a plague

I have also had body part aches/stiffness, and I KNOW I am not sick. It's anxiety.

And I am NOT prone to anxiety so it really says a lot that this has been freaking me out :-/

That relief is amazing!

The anxiety is awful.

I look at the WHO dashboard every morning and for datas from germany (separated by federal states and counties) I use the dashboard of the Rober-Koch-Institute, which is very good.

We all need to stop torturing ourselves with stats every day that are probably wildly skewed. The good news is that very few medical people die of this stuff. Really! They may get sick but most come through just fine.

Bodies piling up is a reality, though. It depends on what you're looking at...there many deaths at nursing homes here and that's just sad and tragic....it is the most vulnerable population...

Spain is trying very hard to be accurate and transparent in their reporting which is why our numbers look so horrifying. I suspect that other countries are not so hell-bent on transparency...especially in the authoritarian states.

I'm so sorry you're making yourself ill from anxiety...

Interestingly, apparently the "Spanish Flu" was not particular to Spain at all but at0tgd time most countries weren't very transparent so all the news out of Spain gave a false impression that Spain was hardest hit and lent the name

The so-called Spanish Flu never originated in Spain at all...but most likely in the US!
I think that is a historical wrong that should be set straight!

I can't look at facts and figures right now. I know what's happening - I'm not in denial - but to see it in black and white just terrifies me.

It doesn't help that at least in the northern hemisphere, it's also allergy season. So we're left wondering if this scratchy throat and this cough is it and we're done for, or if the pollen count is high today.

Sounds like things are getting better in Australia. That's good.

I'm sorry you're so stressed. It's completely reasonable, but it makes me sad for both you and Cristina.

Yeah things definitely seem to be getting better here. For Cristina things haven't gotten bad yet but I just keep feeling like it's just a matter of time and just somehow hasn't hit there yet.

Before any of us out of Asia were really aware of the corona virus epidemic I read an article explaining it. That was on a plane to Australia on Feb 12. It explained how it had been given the name Covid-19 precisely so no one would end up calling it something like the "Chinese Flu." About three days later the question came up as a trivia question, "What name has been designated to identify the corona virus?" I couldn't even remember the answer! D'oh!

Oh, and of course, Drump has purposely been calling in the Chinese Flu. What an a**h*le. Nothing is ever his fault.

Amazing relief and picture, thanks for sharing it with us.

It's really interesting to hear of statistics, I've always been the facts guy, love me some facts.

I really do hope it's levelling off, it needs to, everywhere.

I hope 17 of the 50 doctors are just a vast exaggeration, that's very sad for the Philippines.

Please stay safe and well, I hope your throat feels better soon!

Yeah crunching the numbers is strangely comforting to me. Not in a "oh this isn't so bad" kind of way but it's psychologically pleasing. Something about feeling like I'm donig sometihng about it I guess.
