Capes

I know what I want to bring back? CAPES.

No, not cheesy superhero capes, or silly felt ren-faire capes. Practical fashionable capes. I don't think its as silly as it sounds.

Often, particularly when I'm working at my computer, I'm cold but feel uncomfortably constricted putting on a jacket or even a sweatshirt while sitting at my computer. Wrapping a blanket around myself is usually nice, but then you've got to finagle a way to have it around you and still have your arms sticking out. I often end up draping my jacket around my shoulders, basically wearing it as if it were a cape.

I think a cape could be easily designed that is both practical and not ridiculous looking. I think someone should do this.

You could always try using a shawl.

Dude's aren't allowed to wear shawls!

But moreoever, I think a shawl is just large enough to wrap around one's upper body and such. While it would probably suffice for helping one stay warm while working at a computer or such, I still prefer the idea of a real cape.

Oh come on...be a trendsetter! Some shawls are fairly long and if you knit it yourself, you can make it as long as you want.

You could always buy a trenchcoat and use the sleeves to tie it around your neck. But if you insist on the cape, you should get one of these:

I would like a USB hand warmer - for my 'mouse' operating hand. it gets cold! or even for those manic typing days - keys that warmed the fingers.

ooh thats a good plan with the heated keys. And computers give off heat anyway, which is usually vented out the back -- I'd imagine it wouldn't be too hard to redirect this heat through the keyboard instead (at least in laptops where hte keyboard and everything is attached).

Otherwise.. what about those gloves musicians sometimes have that have the fingers cut off?

Agreed.

I'm really more of a cowl man myself

Yeah I think cowls are pretty dang cool as well, but I can't see anyone pulling them off as mainstream trendy, which is what I'm saying COULD conceivably be done with capes.

Mike made himself something he called a kagool (sp??) It happened to be banana yellow, which was funky, but it was basically a monk like robe with a strange cowl like hood. Very good for slinking around in, though certainly not camouflaged!

I'd sport a hot red cape any day of the week!

LJ Idol: The season is coming to a close and it's down to the top 4 writers. It began with 155 originally. It's a competitive journal writing contest where the number of votes keep you in the game. People vote on your writing if they like it and you advance. If people don't like your writing, then you are voted out. It's built around a handful of reality show concepts and people are given topics to write about.

I'm in the top 4 by the way.

Ah thanks. When does it restart? How does one become a contestant?

First, join the community. Then email the moderator and ask when he plans on starting the next season and where you can sign up.

I commented on the FAQ, hopefully that'll work. Good luck!
