I thought I'd do something the lovely boxsofrain did a bit ago, and declare a Friendzy (Friending frenzy!). Actually I'm not sure she intended for it to work out quite like this but it did: (1) answer the following questions in a comment; (2) As Boxes says, "Also to make this more fun, feel free to read other peoples comments and reply to them with something nice about them. ... Make friends, add each other, mingle, just please be nice." (3) extra points if you mention the Friendzy in your own LJ and send people over to the party! (=

Neighborhood stories are great! San Francisco must be full of them.

And you're not the only one who doesn't know how to post pictures in comments. Maybe someone in the know will take pity on us and explain the process.

And yes! if someone wants to take pity on us and demonstrate how to get pictures in comments I would be enternally grateful. I also cannot use and lj users name in a comment. I can do it in a post, but it doesn't link in a comment.

Could it be that I don't PAY for this LJ? Hmmmm.....

LJ user names I've managed to figure out. (And I'm like you -- I'm not a paying user.)

You type a "<", then "lj user=", then the user name or community name enclosed in double quotes, then a ">".
Like this:

< + lj user= + "magsmom" + >

Here it is without the plus signs and extra spaces:

<ljuser="stiobhan"> thanks for the instruction, but it still doesn't seem to want to work. when I do it in a post, I have to hit the icom at the top. Perhaps its my browser.
But for all this effort, I'm going to friend you. Ok, I was going to anyway, but we all new "rewards"

It looks like you need to put a space between "lj" and "user".

(Apologies -- I see how my instructions were unclear. I wrote "extra spaces" when I should have written "spaces before and after the plus signs.")

I posted a big step by step to this for you yesterday and then my browser crashed at the VERY END and I lost it :'(

HTML might not be working in your posts due to being in "Rich text mode". I ran into this problem while trying to teach my mother (furzicle) these same arcane secrets. In "rich text mode" what you see is what you get and you change everything through use of buttons.

If you are in html mode, however, insert pictures by typing [img src=""], with triangle brackets instead of square and within those two quotation marks the location of the image (will look like http://somedomain/maybesomethingelse/imagename.jpg or something). You usually get this by right clicking on the image and going to "copy image location" in the box that opens (in firefox anyway). Good luck!
