I thought I'd do something the lovely boxsofrain did a bit ago, and declare a Friendzy (Friending frenzy!). Actually I'm not sure she intended for it to work out quite like this but it did: (1) answer the following questions in a comment; (2) As Boxes says, "Also to make this more fun, feel free to read other peoples comments and reply to them with something nice about them. ... In re your historical event. Thats definitely a good one! I was thinking, its easy to just think of "deterrence" as a abstract idea politicans throw around to justify having nukes, but if you think about it, I am almost certain we'd have had a direct war with the Soviet Union at some point if it weren't for the fact that we all knew it would be the end of the world. d=

Agree. We would have been at war.
In terms of war, I suppose nuclear bombs are somewhat of a deterrent. In the end, though, they probably will be responsible for untold devastation. And I don't even want to tip toe around the idea of chemical warfare . . . shudder
