Twitter
Generally speaking, I agree with [livejournal.com profile] superhappytime, that Twitter is strange and useless. I really really don't understand the popularity of it.

I set up a twitter account awhile ago to see what the fuss was all about and months, 94 updates, and 21 "followers" later, I still don't really get it.

However, I use it if I feel like exclaiming something that isn't really worth actually telling someone, just for my own amusement. Or if I'm going on a roadtrip I advise concerned parties (such as my mother) that I'll update my progress on twitter, since its convenient for that.

+ Brewing
Anyway, right now I'm brewing up some beer ("Coffee and Cream Oatmeal Stout"). Usually I rope someone into hanging out with me while I do it to keep me company, however I'm doing this batch all on my lonesome, so you, noble LJists, get to keep me company! And/or follow along at home! Thats right, I'm gonna give you a play by play via twitter! Actually I just realized as long as my laptop is handy I might as well do it via comments to this entry or under a cut here (thoughts on this?) hmm.
Also feel free to just hang out in the comments and keep me company. (=

Anyway, presently I'm bringing circa 3 gallongs of water to a boil in my stainless steel 5gal pot.
Turn your attention to http://twitter.com/Arrrghonaut for further progress. (=

I use twitter, mostly because it can be sent to me via text, and I can update it via text. With school, I'm not alway near a computer.

I also like that it updates my facebook status. Now if I could only remember to text the myspace too...

Hmm I've thought about trying to figure out how to update my facebook status from text. I think I'd want to do it seperately from twitter ... because I make spurious updates to twitter I wouldn't want to change my facebook status to.

you could always start a separate twitter just for the facebook status.

I agree, I don't see the need to use it, or the fuss either.

I use it, like I said, when I feel the need to "post" something utterly spurious. But I don't expect anyone to read it. And frankly I almost never ever read anyone else's twitterage. (disabled it notifying me of other people's updates via phone the moment I set it up)

As it's all through cell phones... I don't feel a need especially since texts are freakin' expansive for me. I tell most people who have my cell not to text me because it costs money that I don't have.

Ah. I'm a texting fiend. I have unlimited texts.

mostly i use twitter either a. when i'm bored, or b. so people who want to see what i'm reading in real time can follow via the goodreads feed. I do have 2 close friends' tweets sent to my cell though because they entertain me.

I'm not much of a text person, so I've never set up an account.

But you can follow along on the intertron!

I don't care about people's twitters, so I disabled text notification the moment I set it up. Like I said, I just use mine for specific projects its useful for, such as play by play updates on roadtrips or, in this case, brewing.

I like Twitter for things that are too small and silly to bother LJing about. I just posted "NPH on SNL tonight!" My friends and I have silly conversations back and forth with it. I don't get any text notifications from it, but I like that I can text to it when I'm in the car (not driving!) or on the bus or just bored. It's a toy.

Yeah thats how I feel about it, I post random spurious things. LJ I make a serious effort not to write anything totally uninteresting and such -- twitter I'll just post whatever random thing I feel like exclaiming at the time, and if someone wants to read it, thats up to them, but I make no representation its worth reading. Except right now, when you should all be following my brewing. :D :D

I absolutely agree. Those posts that automatically import a day's worth of twittering (and those people always have at least a dozen updates per day), I definitely scroll right on past with a groan.

I think you should go for a milk stout, while you're in the lab....

I love milk stout. That was actually what I was looking for, but the closest the man had was this.

You ever have Mackeson Triple Stout? Its technically a milk stout, and is delicious!

I don't know if I've had that one...I think the one I've had most is probably Lefthand.

I thought twitter was ridiculous until I tried it out, and now I love it. I've made many friends that way.

Hm. Made friends through twitter? Like adding people you didn't really know and enjoying their twitterage?

Indeed. For me it's like LJ, only boiled down to a wonderfully succinct 140 characters.

Then again, I'm the type of person who's constantly changing her facebook status every time my mood shifts, so Twitter kind of filled that blurby void for me.

My husband did some brewing today. He's writing up his second post now but the in-progress post is here: http://banzai2326.livejournal.com/261759.html

He was reading over my shoulder and made me go to your twitter page so he could see what you did. :) Beer Geeks, I tell ya.

Thanks! I checked out his entries and added him! Its always good to be in contact with another brewer, esp one who seems to be as knowledgeable about it as your husband!

One of my favorite things about brewing was that initial cooking stage, which made the apartment smell like delicious warm cereal.

I was at a party with a guy who was frantically typing messages on Twitter instead of interacting with us. Struck me as rather odd.
