This year, say it with bees!!

   Picture by my coworker Jeremy. Migratory swarms of honeybees are so docile you can ofen shape them with your bare hands!!! Unfortunately for these bees, if the swarm is found on the ground it is almost certainly because the queen is injured.

   But to keep it cheerful we'll assume she was able to walk it off!



Musical Sunday! - Quebb - Dining With The Dead
   My latest favourite song of the last day or two is this song by one of the tallship volunteers' band. I'm not sure how to describe it, it's like Eastern European meats bluegrass meets ballad. It's kind of eerie without being either cheerful or somber. If you listen to it I'd be curious how you'd describe it.

They are?? Wow, maybe I might like them better after all. :)

On a serious note, how do you mean, they're flying kittens? (I ask because you obviously know a lot about our buzzing friends, and the more I know about something I'm scared of, the more I can fight the fear.)

Haha oh it was sometihng someone said to a post awhile ago after I'd posted about bumblebees. Jut referring to the fact that they're so furry. Furry AND ADORABLE. :D


But let's see facts about bumblebees: for a long time it was said that according to known laws of physics they should not be able to fly. It has since been proven that they can. Additionally, while they fly they build up a static charge, which pulls the pollen to them when they land on a flower. Especially in cold climates, they will start buzzing before their wings actually start moving, this is because they can decouple the muscles from the wings and when it's cold they warm them up first !!!
