So yesterday, after much sitting around and reading of the Ramanyana, which I have determined is the best story ever written, I actually went out and was sociable.
I went to see Estereo and Radio Cure at the Sweet Bean cafe in Elk Grove with comrade Garian Cika. [livejournal.com profile] cartoontom was there of course, and [livejournal.com profile] pocketbookannie is in Estereo...
I bought the Radio Cure CD "Losing the Signal," and then at the party later on that night Annie gave me their other CD, "Running in the Red," as an early birthday present. Yaay.. thankyou Annie!! (=

From there Miss Cika and I proceeded back to Davis, where we picked up an In-N-Out burger (mmmmm) and the infamous Thomas Grossman. Now if you don't know of Tom (some of you may recall him as "the microbiologist"), well... yea. I'll tell you about him later. (= But anyway, we then proceeded to Kim's birthday party.
The party was pretty low key, but Gerri, Chaz, and Nick were there, among others (including one guy who didn't say a thing the whole time but alternated lying on the floor with sitting in a chair staring vacantly about, and another guy who was on his cell phone the whole time). The aforementioned Annie and Tom showed up for a little bit as well. And.. yea. At one point, round about say 2am, there were like three couples in various places in the room in various stages of one-trying-to-seduce-the-other, Antonio the weird drunken guy, Garian, and myself. Being as we all know the picture of innocence I would have nothing to do with this rampant premarital kissing. That and Cika and I got over THAT like a year ago.
So yea, I won't speculate as to what our comrade Tom may or may not have done last night, or with whom.. you have to ask someone else for that.. or like.. buy me alcohol.. or something.

In completely unrelated news I discovered a livejournal community titled [livejournal.com profile] letusbekris: "This is a community for people who want to become Kris, lovers of Kris, and individuals who are already Kris." Now THAT is.. craziness.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Christine: So what exactly do you do in the Coast Guard?
Kris: Do you bravely navigate ships where no one has navigated them before?
   Chaz: I work in headquarters.
Kris: So you bravely navigate papers across your desk?

03:37am, Tuesday night.

First of all, this presumably will be posted sometime Wednesday as our internet connection is inexplicably completely down right now. It apparently went down around 6:30 this afternoon. Examination of the modem and router revealed that all lights claimed it to be functioning normally, however neither apartmentmate Steve nor I had any connection at all. He concluded that perhaps it was too hot and needed to cool off over night, so presumably he unplugged it and thus there’s no possibility for getting up and running again he looks at it in the morning. Even at that point I’m not entirely sure this course of action will solve the problem, but who knows.
Aside from obviously driving me insane by depriving me of internet --my Dominion, my livejournal, my source of news, and my various friends I habitually communicate with-- it means I cannot upload my two English assignments to briefcase.yahoo.com to download in a campus computer lab and print. I need to risk transporting them on an actual DISK!! /=

Anyay, I think the highlight for today was definitely discovering the legendary and illusive underground tunnel from Olson Hall to Sproul Hall. Yes, I travelled from Olson to Sproul entirely underground today. It was awesome. Having some twenty minutes before my next class and emerging from the Olson computer lab, I thought I’d just go check if the locked door that led to the several restricted rooms which appeared on the floor schematic of that corner of Oslon happened to be unlocked for some reason. To my pleasant surprise, the door was NOT in fact locked, so boldly ventured I within. The Tunnel was well lit and very hot, with numerous pipes taversing the walls. It is definitely not intended for the travel of professors. Reaching the Sproul end of it I almost concluded it did not open up to Sproul on that side, as in all directions there was extreme darkness and machinery and piping. Close inspection revealed to me however a walkway into the shadows between some machinery, which led through more dark hot machine filled space, eventually to a door, through which I emerged into the room I’d previously discovered under Sproul; a cavernous well-lit room with a small amount of machinery, one corner set apart by a chain link wall and filled with shelves with boxes on them. The door from which I’d emerged was labeled “FIRE DOOR – KEEP CLOSED” and didn’t LOOK like it led anywhere. Trying another fire door I discovered it was also both unlocked and led to the room from which I had just emerged.
One of these days I’m definitely going to try to get myself to campus after dark and check out what I suspect is steam tunnels.

Anyway, on to a more chronologic account of the days adventures:
As you will recall I was extremely sleep deprived at time of last posting, or if you don’t recall heck go read the last post. This apparently led me to not set my alarm. Like, I SET it for the time that would be necessary, but I did not set it to GO OFF, an important detail. I consequently missed my first class of the day. Psha on that. My second class of the day was not till 15:10 though, so I had some time to kick it here.

NAT (AKA Natalie Kempkey) from Napa called me around I dunno noonish to inform me she was in town, doing a presentation for the commerce department or something wack like that (she graduated last year), and asking if I wanted to hang out or something. I was of course like “hell yea.” So she came over and we went to Subway and generally kicked it. It was good times.

More random stuff:
Chaz reappeared. He supposedly got called up by the Coast Guard like.. last week.

The conversation “blah blah blah livejournal” “oh you have a livejournal, whats your name?” “emosnail” “oh yoooou’re ‘emosnail’” was once again reinacted today. This time by Tom, Annie’s boyfriend.

I just wrote our third writing assignment for ENL5F, fiction writing. At about 1.4 spacing its three pages long, whereas its supposed to be “1-2 pages” at double space. I would have much rather written it longer, oh well. Our next assignment says “a challenge might be to write an entire story that takes place in only one room,” which this one does, and is “1-3 pages” so I could use it all as an excuse to simply elaborate on this one.. maaybe. When I have internet again I think I’ll put this one up for your reading pleasure cause I’m curious to get feedback on it. I think I’ll try to put the previous writing assignment result up as well, though in reflection I’ve decided my paper was crap. I was hijacked by trying to write part of a larger story already formed in my mind, but the scope of the assignment didn let me get into the story at all, and the requirements of the story didn’t permit me to adequately address the assignment, so the result was probably crap. Oh well, at least it was better than that of the girl who read hers out loud.

Okay, its 04:14 now, and I have an eight page paper to start and finish before 14:10 tomarrow. 15% of my grade, no late work accepted, and I reeally reeeally ought to take time out to go to Russian since I all missed it today and all. Good times. Heck its not too late to drop, I’d hate to drop this class, but if I do end up taking the 15% hit…

Despite how busy I've been this last week past I WOULD have updated my livejournal if the whole freakin site hadn been down. psha on that. Anyway, I'll do my best to retro-journalify the week.

THURSDAY
The Student Focus political party won our ASUCD elections (the President/VP and five of the six open senate seats), and the proportional voting amendment passed. The four independant candidates took the last four places in the results, Told You So (where's my "I told you so" lawyer? (= ). I mean, if I can't do it, who can? hehe j/k. But yea, for those who don't know (/don't go here?) UC Davis has a stronge Two Party System. Its bogus. The proportional voting system that just passed should help fix that though. The parties are Lead (pronounced "led," unless your a leadite yourself and then you say "lead") and Focus/Unite (Lets just call them focites).
And then of course the closed session to remove the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court was SUPPOSED to occur today but it was cancelled for the third week in a row.. this time however it was because the Chairperson resigned this morning rather than face the hearing. I told you I'd have her head on a platter. Did I? I better reread my livejournal. But I know I told some people.
Then I had work 3:30-10:00. I forget what we did this day (writing this sunday) specifically but we're still training at this point. Confirmed that one of the servers there is indeed Claire from last friday. Interesting.
came home sometime after ten, got a ride from Don. Arriving home I learned via AOL IM that there was a Student Locust victory party. Err um Focus yea Focus. I quickly changed and hoofed it on down to The Colleges (an apartment complex) where the party was goin on. Not really my cup of tea (I think I'll rant about what makes a party lame a little further on in reference to Someone Who Is Lame), but there were a bunch of people that I knew and.. yea.

FRIDAY
Kicked it a bit with Sharon (Amy's twin sister) during the afternoon. Worked 4:00-22:00, whereupon I promptly walked on down to the show at Keebler Hall. Arriving there only very briefly, I set out adventurin with Amie, Sharon and some other guys. Sharon ended up going home to sleep before the rest of us piled into a car and transportmatated ourselves to a party at F and Covell. Arriving there I ran into Don and Vanessa, who hadn't been at work that day. I apparently ended up rather drunk.. I didn think I was THAT drunk but others say otherwise. Anyway it was a lot of fun. Amie and I ended up doing the most classic drunken stumble home.. not even able to keep up a straight line. It was good times. Eventually after hella walking I arrived home in time for two hours of sleep and suddenly it was...

SATURDAY
...pulled myself out of bed after my two hours of sleep (and still feeling tipsy) and walked across town to IHOP. At this point I've walked at least nine miles in the last 12 hours (IHOP to Keebler, Party to home, and home to IHOP).
It was definitively the most awesome day of work in my life however. The morning shifts all did their thing while the evening shifts pretended to be customers. So from 9:00 to 14:00 I was getting paid $7.50 an hour to be seated by the servers and have hella food brought out in front of me. It was unreal just like plate after plate getting set in front of me.. because the cooks obviously needed to practice really making the food.... and then I pretended to pay my bill.. which was like $30 each time. sheit. It was good times. Met a bunch of servers and stuff. Many of whom are very bogus and annoying. Jennifer the cool server has her first day's tips on a bet on who is going to be the first two be fired... and I agree with her the server in question is a freakin bitch. Speaking of servers, Claire still either hasn't recognized me, or more likely, is pretending not to recognize me. Silly Claire.
Everything I've heard about the morning shift cooks is pretty negative... they apparently all have little ego problems and don't work well with eachother and stuff like that. I really like the whole evening cook shift even if I can't communicate with half of them. But yea the galley broke down today.. the morning shifts lost control of everything and had to completely stop, take a half hour break and start over.
Got a ride home from Don and went promptly to sleep.

And so begins what was as far as I'm concerned kind of a seperate day, set off from sat and sunday on either end by periods of sleep. So we'll call it... Shaday, after the almightie word SHA.
Waking up at eightish I started tryign to finagle a ride to the party off Lillard, where live bands were playing starting at eight and continuing until like.. midnight? It was lookin to be quite the party. Unfortunately however everyone had set out for the evening and I couldn get a ride with anyone..... except Garian's former suitemate Becca.
And I really didn't want to get a ride with her, especially since originally she was going to be bringing some friends along as well, because she's all about the sororities and the drugs and the Stuff Thats Lame. I couldn find another ride though so I ended up going with her.. and being in no freakin hurry she didn get around to heading out till 23:00... by which point I had missed the best of the party apparently. After like five minutes at the party she left because "there's no dance music." And that pretty much summed up why I didn't want to bring her. Previously mentioned rant:
If one cannot relate to people except by enacting extremely cliche sexually oriented dance moves to overplayed rhythms then one really isn't the kind of person I'd prefer to be dealing with, and the parties that cater to such are not the kind of parties you'll find me at. Thats the kind of party that I think pretty much all frat parties are and unfortunately that was how the Focus victory party on Thursday was. I mean the Focus kids are good people and I'm not saying they lack social skills, but the party was the type that only catered to the cliche dance moves. They're all frat kids what do you expect. And I'm not say like if you like to dance I hate you, thats all good and well, its just that if thats the only way you can interact with people at a party...
Okay I'm done ranting now I think. So.. yea. At the party I ran into Amy, Amie, Stan, Fantastic Dan & Danielle, Nick, Chaz, Morgan, Maeve, Don and prolly other people as well, pretty much Everyone was there. Vanessa was apparently but I didn see her. After the party began dispersing around.. 1ish? ..I went with Chaz and someone else in search of an afterparty we'd heard about. Eventually finding it we found Amie, Maeve and Garian (she came with me and Becca originally btw) there. It was really laid-back.. people just kickin around talking, listening to The Pixies, playing pool. After imbibing a decent amount of alcohol however the party seemed quite a nice little shindig to me . Eventually, as had been my plan, I crashed on the couch.
I perhaps should ahve elaborated on my plan earlier, but oh well I don't feel like reworking previously written paragraphs. Basically in order to avoid the hour long walk across town I'd done saturday morning, I decided it would really be a better idea to crash over there somewhere, as the party (and the subsequent afterparty) were about a block from IHOP. And so, with this in mind, I had brought a change of clothes for work in my backpack.
And the plan worked very well. After another two hour night of sleep I walked a mere five minutes to work at 7:30.

SUNDAY
The training at work was the same thing as it had been yesterday, however this time the pm shifts were doing their thing and the am shifts were pretending to be customers. We managed not to break down like the morning cooks had. I am going to do mad studying before my first real day of work on Wednesday.
One of the morning cooks was in for a bit this morning for some time. I'm not sure why.. maybe he mistakenly thought he was supposed to be working today rather than being a simulated customer. I don't know but he gave us a nice taste of the morning shift spirit: if anyone came within two feet of him he was like "hey I need space!" even though he was just making freakin bacon. Otherwise he was generally an ass.
We got issued uniform shirts today. yay. Anyway, after hella cleaning (the kitchen got sooo dirty) we were finally released and I proceeded to sleep till 23:00.

And now... this thing is up to date apparently. What a relief.

` ` Roses are red,
` ` Violets are blue,
` ` He's probably cheating on you,
` ` So get over it.

` Nick put that up on his front door for the Anti-Valentines-day party, but without the last line. I think it ends too abruptly without it though. Other similar things were on the walls elsewhere (well on butcher paper on the walls). I drew a snail with a broken heart over its head, a single tear from its eye, and a giant shoe above it. Someone defaced it later, writing a text bubble that said "haha I have a hard shell" or something. WTF? Sheesh. Last party someone wrote "I like boobs" on the snail I drew so I guess this time was better. Damn drunk people.

` Anyway, so yea, today was valentines day. I hate valentines day. And its not because "its too commercialized" or because I wish I had someone special to be mushy with or whatever.. its because EVERYONE is so freakin mushy it makes me sick. I aspire to become the grinch that steals valentines day. I'll steal all the cards and roses and everonye will be like "aaaaaah I can't express my affection... my girlfriend is going to kill me.. aaaaaaaa." Yea lets see them survive THAT one.
` Normally I wear all black on Valentines day and I'm totally "psha on this!" But I don't think I did a good job this year.

My V-Day:
` Ran into Anjuli ("The Girl That Had A Boyfriend") several times (She also works in the Coffee House, in the kitchen. Actually apparently I inspired her to get the job. Thats what she says). She wanted to buy me a cookie. Silly Anjuli.
` Bought Antoinette a cookie. She visited me at my work and I visited her at hers (She works in The Bookstore, about fifty feet from where I work.
` Ran into Garian for the first time all year. She broke up with Tom a week ago. Coincidentally Tom himself happened along like two minutes after I ran into Garian and joined us. I ought to tell the story behind all that sometime.. its kinda.. wack. I dated Garian for like three months last year. Tom was her next-door neighbor... dormcest . Garian came to the Anti-Vday party that evening.
` Visited Amy. She was all sick. Poor Amy.

` And then of course there was the Anti-Valentines Day Party. During certain times it suffered disproportionate injections of sober people, but then they'd either wander off elsewhere or become drunk as well and eventually it was a great mix of hella drunk people with a pretty good level of mutual familiarity with eachother.. I don't think anyone in the room was further than a friend of a friend from anyone else. So congradulations to Nick and Chaz for throwing a good party.
` And of course the traditional party shout outs; the following people showed up at the party: Garian Cika, Amie Gutierrez, Arjun and Eric from The List, Jackson Pritt, Damany, Girl from the Bus (GFTB?), GFTB's Friend Andrea, Annie, and two guys who both said "hey I ran into you with Vanessa in the Coffee House." I swear I've only hung out with Vanessa in the CoHo like.. twice. I also met at the party Claire, Priya ("you're the boy I didn't vote for!"), and Supna ("can you just leave?"). Good times.

Also by way of shout outs, I ran into those rather attractive ladies Tamera and Sarah in the CoHo today. They didn't even make fun of my accent. Tamera is having a big party tonight (Saturday). There's a show at Delta Venus today too.. but I think I'm going to hang out with Antoinette...
