aggienaut: (Bailey)

Alright so tonight I'm writing a paper on St Francis of Assisi. Or more specifically, I am to compare and contrast two movies about him, Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), in which he's portrayed as a flaming hippie, and Francesco (1989), in which this apparently famous guy named Mickey Rourke plays him and he's a bit more emo and rolling in the dirt oriented.
Anyway, I really don't mind writing about history, but I hate having to analyze films for a history class. Maybe if I'd signed up for a film class I'd expect this kind of crap, but I didn't. I signed up for a history class, and here I have to write several pages on some crap-ass director in the 70s wanted to portray a 13th century masochist as a hippie.

Anyway, so yeah I'm disgruntled, and in a hurry, so yeah. But by Wednesday I'll be done with finals, so I'll have almost as much free time as [livejournal.com profile] otimus, so y'all better look out.. at least until I die on the 18th.

No more kisses mom!   So for todays little entry, by popular demand, I am going to talk about Bailey. Bailey appears to be mostly an unusual breed called "Australian Mist," causing him to have an aweomse grey-&-black leopard pattern, with a golden belly. [livejournal.com profile] slosha got him at the Woodland animal shelter when he was wee (and sick). But Sloshie's allergic reactions to cats proved too much so his Other Mother Kristy took over Bailey-raising.
Because he was really sick for much of his wee-er weeks, he grew accustomed to being held constantly. As a result, he is much more cuddly than most (and especially male) cats. When one comes home after he's been left alone, he'll frequently mew until you pick him up and hold him for a bit.

Bailey is BFF with Kristy's flatmate Jardine's pet bunny. The bunny was named "Oreo" by Kristy's former flatmate Chrissy, who got him as a gift from some sorority older sib or something. Since Chrissy literally never took care of the bunny, however, it was adopted by Jardine, who just calls him "Mr Buns." Me I call it "Orca," since its patterned like an orca. One thing we can all agree on though is that "Oreo" is a dumb name.
But yeah, Orca & Bailey are best friends. Also, Bailey is fond of lying about on his back. In fact he's doing that right now! He's such a master of loungin.

Bailey likes to wake us up in the morning by licking our faces, something that kittenbehaviour.com (or something like that - I don't have time to check facts here) says is a sign of particular loving.

But he's not all well behaved. He likes to throw fiestas & pool parties. Crap fiestas that is! He gets a little carried away while burying shit in his litter box, and next thing you know he's just watching the litter fly for the fun of it. And then when we are emptying his litter box and have his little gifts all wrapped up in a plastic bag, he likes to bat at it, and we have to say "no bailey, no! NOT a pinata!" And if one leaves the toilet lid up (which is gross anyway people, seriously), he will sometimes decide to throw a pool party in it.

But mostly he's a good kitty, waging war on his eternal enemy, Dots on Walls, sitting in windowsills, and hanging out with his catmom Kristy. He's one of the most loving cats I've ever met.

And now for the only reason half of you read this crap: Entry of the Day Awards: [livejournal.com profile] xaositecte definitely wrote another entry which will be remembered in blog-memory for years to come (at least when I'm reminiscing about past 30 in 30s) - What the various 30 in 30 participants would do with two cows, respectively.

Previous Year in Summary - Or at least highlights of it. Yeah and cryptic references to missing my friend Kristy over the summer.
Year Ago Today: Controversial Sauce II - The Sanctity of Marriage - Man if I'd remembered I'd have linked back to this when I got you all hot & bothered about polygamous marriage this year. Anyway, last year's conclusion: as far as "abominations to the sanctity of marriage" are concerned, divorce is many times worse than allowing gay marriage; or at the very least, allow seperation if people were dumb and make eachother miserable, but disallow remarriage. Also, a picture of a typical Davis student behaving as we typically do.

Friday being Lyric's birthday celebration and Ten For One Night (Officially "10-4-1" night, which has the double meaning that at first drinks are 10 for 1, but half an hour later they're 4 for 1, and then they're 1 for 1) at the Grad, Kristy and I met up with Lyrics friends at the Grad. It was crazy, we got six drinks for $4 something. Unfortunately one can only but two drinks /person at a time and the lines were too long to go through twice in the first half hour. But I gave in and went back during the 4 for 1 period and my drink was still only around $2.
Then everyone scampered off to M Street (I didn't even know there WAS an M street?!) for this girl Bitafilter's "White Trash" theme party. Kristy and I made a brief appearance and then took Tipsy Tapsy home. "Maybe we should drink more or they won't let us on it?" Another idea I came up with during the long wait to get through to Tapsy Tipsy was to order a pizza and hitch a ride back from the East Davis Suburban Labyrinth with the pizza delivered (Kristy: "on the minus side, that would be more expensive, but on the plus side, we'd get pizza out of it!").

On Saturday my former flatmate Ben came to down (did I mention that Ben moved out? Replaced himself with another Indian guy). I think Ben and my other flatmate Jason just came with me to Kristy's place where we all hung out and watched The Simpsons on DVD. This night blurs into the preceding and proceedings evenings a lot in my memory though.

Sunday night was an indie dance night at The Grad (made possible by Jordan "DJ Boy Wonder" Smart), & Ben's birthday. We convinced him to commute from Novato an hour away again, and go to the Grad with us. Kristy made awesome cup cakes in cones for the occasion.
Anyway, our expeditionary force to The Grad consisted of Ben, our flatmate Jason, Kristy's flatmates Chrissy and Jadine, Kristy and myself, and we were joined by Jardine's friend Michelle. Everyone had a blast, and there was definitely jockred in the air.

Dubious Adventures with Senators
Yesterday, Thursday, three ASUCD Senators and the Chief Justice were found on the fifth floor of the MU and told to leave by an unidentified official. Ironically the individuals in question constitute one fourth of the governming board which officially owns the Memorial Union, and the head of the branch that decides what they can and cannot do.

Shortly thereafter, Senator Thomas Lloyd regaled some of us with his thoughts on how there is no need for an ASUCD Supreme Court because if there is ever a question of the meaning of a bylaw the Senate could solve it through legislation. I asked him who would protect the rights of the minority party if say one party had 2/3rds of the seats as Focus recently did for a year, to which he responded something along the lines of "well the Court could be just as biased as Senators." This caused Gordon "I was President of my JC" Fung to become emotionally destraught. After he had stormed out of the room I countered Lloyd with "but no really unless you can either cite an example of the judicial branch failing in a similar institution, or evidence of our justices voting along party lines, to say it doesn't work as you do is nothing more than utterly unsubstantiated speculation that flies in the face of existing evidence." He appears to remain dedicated to the elimination of the judicial branch and any other checks on legislative power.
He also expressed an interest in banning the Chief Justice from Senate meetings. This led current chief justice myself to ask him "Why do you hate justice, Senator Lloyd?"

Conversation of the Day
Me: What ho!
Carissa: What does that mean?!
Me: I think its what pioneers say, like "onward, what ho!"
Me: I think its like "or whatever"

Word of the Day: Igtheism - the belief that theistic doctrine employs words that cannot be understood to the point that the entire undertaking is impossible. Basically I think it is "I have no idea what the fuck religious people are talking about."

Headline of the Day: "Being Successful in Law School - CANCELLED!" according to the poli sci listserve. There go my plans.

Wiki Entry of the Day: Don't Feed the Ducks - why you shouldn't feed the ducks.. but its more interesting than you'd think. And explains our infestation of administrators.

I've been WAY too busy lately - I'm down to like one entry per week. This is totally not acceptable.

So on Saturday we had the school open house, "Picnic Day." Traditionally, in addition to all kind of people and families (people's relatives? Davis city residents?) flooding the campus to see the many exhibits and things, the entire student body begins drinking as soon as they awake and proceed to stumble around town all day.

Our drink of choice in this case was actually rather classy -- at various intervals we'd all do a few irish car bombs, which one of Jadine's friends remarked "tastes like a milkshake!" We didn't get started on this however until about noon, at which point Sashie's roommates had already consumed 6 bottles of champaign, one bottle of tequila, and several bottles of Coleman's homemade wine.
Among other things we saw my friend Roxie's band play and they were awesome.
Eventually we ended up at Sashie's place, where the St Patricks Day Party and numerous other ones had taken place. And my former roommate Jill showed up and hung out with us which was cool.

My pictures from picnic day are up HERE.

I got a bunch of pictures I really like but this is the only one that seemed to really say "picnic day!" (because, well, it does), and I felt like I needed to put a really picnic day picture up.
